Suds mentioned something about unsalted lard and I didn't want to mess up the shopping list thread.
Can someone give me information about unsalted lard? How much to give? How often? What can I mix it with? Where can I find this product and how much does it cost?
Any other weight GAINING remedies? Thanks Fuzz Mamas and Papas

Lard is pig fat, you can find it in tubs in the baking section of the grocery store. It is cooked. I've seen huge tubs for about $12. Other then that I don't know anything about it.

Lard will vary among brands, some will be, as tss mentioned, pig fat, some beef fat, some lamb fat, and some a mixture of several animal fats. Most lard is a mixture of animal fats that have been removed from the meats bound for human consumption. One ounce of lard offers 253 calories. This ounce of lard also is VERY high in Omega-6 fatty acids (2856 mg) and Omega-3 Fatty Acids (280 mg)! Lard has a fair amount of choline (13.9 mg), has a smattering of Vitamin E (.2 mg) and a trace of Selenium (.1mcg) Just as Crisco or Vegetable shortening is made from vegetable fats by first heating the source until the fatty oils are released, then mixed together and allowed to cool into a congealed mass. The nice thing about lard is it is actually healthier than Vegetable shortening because it has NO trans fats! Lard is high in Monounsaturated fats unless its been hydrogenated. You can render your own lard if you want to offer your ferrets a "natural" source by following the directions here: homesicktexan.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-render-lard.html the fat on top of kidneys is said to offer the best quality lard. I buy the manufactured lard in one pound bricks and offer a free choice lard lick for my ferrets. Being as I do not have a proper kitchen in my apartment, I doubt I'll be rendering my own lard. Hope this helps! Cheers, Kim

You can feed 1tbsp of heavy whipping cream each day. Be sure its free from carageenan which can cause tummy troubles. Organic is your best bet
