So I spent the better part of the day setting up breeder mouse bins. The drawers were getting chewed through and the mice went visiting eachother.
So I got some deep clear plastic bins and drilled holes in the tops, attached water bottles and now could stack the bins. I got all the mice together in the bathroom stacked in bins on top of two dressers.
One dresser is near a radiator and I've had mice bins there before, but during my shifting of bins the bin got set back two inches from the edge. I usually keep the bin right ON the edge of the dresser, this prevents the ferrets from being able to climb up.
Well that slight shift allowed a two inch ledge which was all Crystal needed to climb up and get in side TWO of the bins!
She killed all 4 of my male mice and three females who were ready to whelp this week! Little murderess! As before she'd neatly stacked her kills into a corner of the bin and when I found her she was just putting the last male on the stack!
Aaack! I had JUST finished working in the bathroom and had gone out to the kitchen to start on dinner. Heard a little commotion and went to investigate- barely five minutes had passed and she managed to obliterate some of my best breeders!
Needless to say I moved the bin to its proper place right ON the edge of the dresser. Everyone got another mouse today, even the snake!
Sneaky little flying ferret!
Cheers, Kim

There's a reason why they call a bunch of ferrets a "business". When it comes to killing they're all "business". I'm thinking that you still have some left after the "massacre"? Did the little "Assassin" get her cut?? ciao

Oh yes!
She was very proud of herself! And being that three of the mice were very gravid they actually offered two meals each! So from those seven mice she killed, I got 11 meals!
The oldest male too had become rather large so he also rendered two meals, bless his little heart- he was actually a very nice mouse and I would often take him out to listen to his stories! He'd squeak and chirp and tell me about his female conquests! He was so very gentlemanly when courting the ladies, and even when dealing with the younger males, he'd teach them how to be nice. I really do miss him!
Crystal was a bit miffed that her kills were shared between the other ferrets, she kept trying to grab a mouse and run out the cage door with it as I'd put another ferret in to eat, or take her out.
She'd eat, then go to snooze in the hammock, so I'd go to get her out and as soon as she felt the door being unlatched, she'd jump out of the hammock, grab a mouse and try to sneak out the open door!
They all still want to stash their food, but I am insistent they MUST eat INside the feeding cages.
Cheers, Kim
