Is it ok to use hamburger fat (left over from cooking for human use) to soften kibble in the transition??

As I said on the ferret.com forum, I dont see why not. However, if you get oily, runny poop (which you might) then I'd discontinue using it.

It is ok. to use as long as you didn't season the meat before cooking! Your ferrets don't need "montreal steak seasoning, or mesquite barbecue flavoring- and they certainly don't need all the garlic or sodium present in most seasonings!
Plain fat drippings from hamburger is fine.
DO NOT use bacon grease!

I used a slight bit of unseasoned hamburger grease, just enough to add a different smell/texture to it then used water to moisten it the rest of the way.
We don't really cook beacon here but why is bacon grease bad? just curious.

what about the juices you get from thawing meat can you use that to soften the kibble with ? would it have any nutritional benefits ? would it help with giving them differnt smell's and taste ?
I was just thinking of more enrichment things to use other then just water and chicken broth ?

Suds, Definitely use the drippings from the thawed meat! (well the drippings from INside the meat package. The more you broaden the horizons regarding their taste buds the healthier and happier your ferrets will be! Cheers, Kim

Those do include a lot of salt.
