So I am trying to work out a feeding schedule for once I start the switch. I have read the info about how long it is safe to leave wet kibble, RMB, flesh, and whole prey out, but I still have a few questions.
It seems like many people on here feed there ferrets twice a day…. From what I have always been told, ferrets should have food available at all times. Does this still apply when feeding raw food?
What does your feeding schedule look like?
I already have an idea of WHAT I will be feeding, I just don't know WHEN!
I am usually gone during the day from about noon to 4 or 6pm, M-F so they wouldn’t have to go long between meals.
My problem is that I don’t want dead animal touching their hammocks, bedding, the ferret room carpet, their tubes and tunnels, etc. I really don’t want meat touching anything at all except their mouths, throats, stomachs and litter boxes on the way out! Obviously this isn’t possible, but I wondering if there is any way I could feed them in the top half of the FN with everything stripped out. That way, when they finish eating I can wipe it down right away and replace their bedding and such until the next meal time. What about feeding in the bathtub? We have two and only use one for ourselves, the other is used for bathing pets and cleaning ferret things.
Would it be possible to feed them 2-3 times during the day instead of having raw meat out all the time? They are usually out of their cage at least 5-6 hours each day (or at least have their cage door open) and have access to their entire room. They are usually only locked in their cage while we sleep and when I’m gone for 4-6 hours during the day for school/work. I really don’t want to have to cage them more just to keep their meals from touching the carpet and getting scattered around the room! I would really rather NOT have raw meat sitting in their food dish all day either….
Help Please!
(sorry for all the questions, I want to do this the right way!)
