I've seen a lot of pictures of ferrets wearing collars. I would like to have my little guys wear collars with bells so I can keep track of them but I often forget to put them on once I take them out for their playtime.
Is it safe to keep the collar on while their in the cage?

Personally, I wouldn't. My guys used to wear harnesses until Porthos got hung up somehow, somewhere. He must have been some scared fuzz and it probably almost killed him. There was no fur on his throat and shoulder and it was all raw and sore looking. I have no idea where or what happened. It has never occurred again but my guys don't wear harnesses any more except when they're going visiting, on walks or going to the vet (supervised). I also used to have cute collars for them all too, but lost so many of them that it was going to put me in the poor house ciao

I stopped using collars after a couple weeks as well. I was worried they'd get hooked on something, they kept getting lost, and the hardest time to find a fuzzy is when they've gone to sleep somewhere and when they're sleeping, the bell isn't making noise anyway.

I used to use them daily, but recently I've let them off without the collar and they've been no more difficult to find. They go outside with a harness and do pretty well with them.

I bought really cute collars with bells for my first two, one was leopard print and the other was zebra, but they didn't fit very well and came off anyways so I gave up... My crew only use "H" style harnesses only when we go out to play...

I keep collars on mine at all times, BUT, they are actually toy breed dog collars that I bought kitty bells for. They are break away collars that come undone easy should it get hung up on something. Plus they are a little looser so they can slip on and off easy, but not too easy. They are GREAT since they do come apart easily enough for a ferret to break apart should it get hung up,(I mean it WAS made for a toy breed dog so it has to be weak enough for a toy breed to pull apart) but not so easy that they fall off if the ferret sneezes too hard or something. And the toy breed dog collars are 6''-8'' so just right size for a ferret. Or if you have a smaller ferret you can still (because it's nylon) cut and re-fuse it together but cutting a little section out and heating it up with a lighter and push the two ends together. They have some really cute ones too. I got Miko a purple one with little white paw prints, Zip a pink one with little skull and cross bones, and Timmy a plain black one.

I bought a petco ferret bell collar but he only wears it when he's out of his room so we can keep track of him. We take it off when he goes back into the room. He never has it on all the time that he is out because he usually takes it off and we always find it in the tub.

I quit using collars after having to replace about 9 of them for 3 ferrets And at $10 a pop, it was getting expensive!
