My parents have a 7-8 yr old chihuahua mix. About a week ago she went and got her rabies done. She always got it on time and never had any reactions. On the way up, She shook and didn't want to go to the vet. (She's been shaking ALOT for no apparent reason. O.o) But the strangest thing is that in the morning after the shot, She got sick. And than while my dad held her She went stiff, drooled, and in the end shook worse than before. She is fine now though.
So I need to know if this could be a future issue with shots, reaction wize, or something more?

Small dogs can get hypoglycemia. We raise Yorkshire terriers and give printouts about it when a puppy leaves us. When they are nervous or begin to shake rub nutrical or karos corn syrup on their gums and you should see a drastic improvement within minutes.

I have heard of that, but what is described here is a petit mal seizure. Whether it's brought on by stress or by the vaccine is for someone with medical knowledge ciao

Her age could be the reason for the reaction. The older a dog is, the more likely there is to be a reaction, even if it's never happened before.

If nothing else is done to follow this up, this dog should never be vaccinated again. The next seizure could be life threatening. ciao

It definitely sounds like a seizure to me. I've had epileptic dogs and cats, and that does sound like a petit mal.

I'm not trying to scare you, but this happened to my great great aunts chihuahua after a rabies shot, and the vet said she could just be epileptic and didn't think it was a reaction to the shot because she'd had it before. The next rabies shot she had the seizure(reaction) was much much worse, and her baby didn't make it If it were me, I would definitely talk to the vet about it!

Mom took taco to the vet and the vet said it most likely just from her being nervious. But me being me, I am peacing things together and trying to think about how after a full night of rest she could be nervious from the vet?
So I'm going to let mum know about the rection and not to give rabies. Should we stay away from distemper as well?

Me, personally.....I wouldn't be vaccinating an 8+ dog at all. If they haven't got the immunities now they're never going to get them. Even back when I vaccinated, I never vaccinated past 6 yrs of age. They always went in every year and got their wellness check....bloodwork and physical but never vaccinated. ciao
