Zippy seems to only like chicken! Ive tried him with liver today and a bit of bone but he turned his nose up at both so then i panicked he would be hungry and gave him chicken which he loves. Can they have too much chicken?

For a fully balanced meal, they need to experience different parts of the chicken as well as other meats. Have you tried wingettes yet? That is how I started mine on bone. As for the liver, I ground my chicken and liver together to start them out on it for the first time.

Jaycee gave you some great suggestions. Blending in the liver with the chicken (at first) will be a great way to get him to eat it. Once your hubby actually picks up the right thing from the store (wings) lol Then you can try your baby on that. Ideally you feed your ferret at least 3 different types of meat (like beef, pork, and chicken or turkey, lamb, and rabbit). But Jaycee is right to have a fully balanced diet meat/bone/organ MUST be included and in the correct ratios.

I finally got mine to eat liver on its own by blending it in a blender with their eggs. Just enough to break up the liver but you do not want the eggs to frothy.
The diet of my ferrets is about: 60 % Chicken ( including livers, hearts, gizzards) 30 % whole prey( this is mice, rats, quail, chicks, and rabbits) and the other 10% is lamb and beef

You'll know if your ferret is getting too much chicken when he begins clucking, grows feathers and deposits and egg! From the pix he seems to be a young kit, NOW is the time to get him used to eating a variety of things! Offering him liver but than letting him have the chicken because he didn't eat it will only teach him to hold out for what he wants. Stick to your guns, he'll learn. You may have to intro new meaty items similar to how a ferret gets switched to meat from kibble. By offering small pieces of new tucked into or on top of the regular. But get him used to eating a variety of things now while he is young! Cheers! Kim

Try feeding something similar to chicken. Quail, cornish hens these all have smaller bones and are very readily eaten by the furbabies. My guys would eat only rabbit if I let them, so there's another mild meat that ferrets usually go for without any problem. Most of my guys will also eat emu (red meat) as well. They're not as fond of beef ( I do have a couple of them that will eat it). Quite a few of them really enjoy pork as well. They're going to try grouse in the next couple of days, I'm not sure how well that will go over as sometimes the meat can be quite stron tasting. Just some ideas to get you started I believe that someone once told me that I was only limited by my imagination. Ciao
