You could say that you forgot to feed him, but if he's that thin....you've forgotten to feed him alot (jocking you ok, not being mean). So, sounds to me that your baby's sick. Unfortunately, poor appetite, weight loss and lethargy covers any of a dozen ferret diseases ranging from mild to hugely serious. What are you feeding him right now? ciao

I would be too. He needs to be seen by a vet. Sorry, I know that you've stated that you're cash strapped but he needs a vet. It might be something simple or not. You need to find out. ciao

Diabetes the least likely of the 3 listed. Unfortunately, the symptoms are too vague. Blood work is probably necessary, to narrow down the field of possibles. ciao

this morning after eating more soup he is fine still REALLY low body weight but he has energy and popped up out of his hammock as soon as i opened the cage, and when i put him on the floor he was moving around not running but walking. The only thing i can think is that maybe when i quit giving him his soup everyday it caused this to happen. because that the only thing in his diet that changed and when i gave it back to him lastnight he is like this in the morning. his soup is made of a small handfull of kibble and a full jar of baby meat with enought water to make is soupie.

Even without soup, Zupreem should be keeping the weight on him. You are, right now, just trying to find excuses. The reason is something inside him. It could even be something like worms, sounds like that is possibly what your cat had. If your cat had worms, then your ferret most likely does.
You need to get this ferret to a vet. If you cannot get him to a vet, you need to surrender him to somebody who can. Sorry to be blunt, but I have heard the story too many times.

You do need to get to a vet, but I will say from experience with Zupreem.. if I feel my guys just straight zupreem it gives them loose stools, I had to mix in other kibbles because it got to the point to where they were getting dehydrated. You might try to give your ferret some pumpkin.. not the pie mix but just plain canned pumpkin. It'll help to thicken up the stools and if there is a blockage it'll help get it moving.

I can't get him to his vet today my driveway is drifted in with 3-4ft drifts and the person thats supposed to plow it isnt returning phone calls. I tried to get out and the car got stuck. I am not making exzcuses for his problems and resent that accusation it was an honest question. i will definately try some pumpkin, I had thought of worms but not sure what i can try here at home until i can get out of my driveway. If this had been last month i wouldnt have a problem getting him there. I had a clear driveway then.

OUch that's a lot of snow. Keep supplementing with the baby food, but you are going to have to find out what's basically wrong. When you finally get yourself out from all that snow (bleck), have a vet check your little one out. If it's worms, get the meds from the vet (there's nothing works better even holistically so just do it) If you suspect worms, take in a stool sample with your little one. Most vet services have an onsight lab that can check for worms and other parasites (a microscope ) Supposedly you can do this yourself with a stool sample and some water and a microscope.... I let my vet You need to get to the bottom of this. Supplementing is a bandaid. Good luck and keep us posted. ciao

ok since i couldnt get out i had the vet call me and he says it sounds like an ulcer caused from stopping the soup everyday. But I need to get him in asap if it doesnt snow tonight i *should* be able to get out of my driveway tomorrow if i can i will be setting up an appt for him tomorrow. All i know for sure is when i was giving him the baby meat he was so much better than he is now or was before.

What are his stools like? This doesn't indicate one way or the other if it's an ulcer. Dark tarry stools would indicate an ulcer lower down in the GI track, while normal stools might indicate an ulcer of the throat or mouth. Ulcers would make sense, it takes nothing to set some little ones off. They perpetuate their problem because they feel nauseous and stop eating, then it hurts worse and it makes them feel even worse. ciao
