I have two ferrets, a boy and a girl both one yr old. Today I noticed my boy is acting really sluggish. He is dehydrated and threw up today, clear no chunks, and when I went to go see if he was ok he just climbed into my arms and laid there. (Not that I don't appreciate the love but that's so not him) His poops are fine and he's breathing normal but I'm freaking out. Both my boyfriend and I have really bad colds and I know the little guys can get things from us but this seems more to me than cold like. Tonight I fed them chicken hearts, his favorite and he wouldn't even get out of bed for them. My girl is acting completely normal, aside from being very attentive to him, she's still her perky little self. I'm gonna try and get him to the vet tomorrow if this keeps up. I was just wondering if there's anything I could be doing right now.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Kim

Watered down soup or baby food. Get him hydrated first and foremost.

So took him to the vet. They did some x-rays and found some stuff in his intestines, then he pooped some of it out. Turns out he ate some clothes in his cage. They hydrated him and gave us laxatives and said he should be fine. Gonna keep him under close watch. He's still sluggish so I was thinking of giving him some pedialyte. Is that ok for ferrets? I don't wanna give him to much sugar.

I no! I'm was so worried. I'm just glad we don't have to do surgery. It's kinda wired though because I have no idea why he would eat his sleeping clothes. :/ oh well. for now I took out most of the clothes but left in they're favorite sleeping clothes in there.

I think I'd still give him some pumpkin for a couple of days, just to make sure everything is out. And yes, you can give unflavoured pedialyte. Don't mix it with anything, just give it straight. Otherwise, you upset the electrolyte balance in it. And you can't freeze it either for the same reason. Once he's had a good rest, he should be up and running again

I heard that for cloth chewers sometimes denim is better? Maybe you could try that, instead, if you haven't done it before.

I"m glad that he passed this blockage. How scary. Please keep us posted. I've had a number of cloth munchers, most once they got on a proper diet decided that clothing was just a passing fancy. Mayhem, always had a taste for textile. Keeping a good ferretlax and pumpkin on hand was my saviour for this little one. He was scary good at finding a quiet isolated corner to participate in this dangerous pastime ciao

Just to be safe, if some one is constipated and or has blockage you should not only have something flushy to "keep things moving" but also have a back up medication for when/if the blockage is completely out but a overdose causes a new problem, direa. In both cases of digestions distress its best to have lots of water!

Oh gosh, Oz used to chew all the time when he was a small kit! He even still tries it from time to time-I try not to let him go away by himself except to sleep, because I have found him before, in the most remote corner, chewing on my brastraps from the dirty clothes, or munching on a shirt. He hasn't done it in months, so I'm hoping he's past it.
I'm glad your boy is OK

Thanx for all the advise guys he seems to be doing really well. Pretty sure he's passed everything and we're scheduled for a follow up vet check tomorrow. Hopefully this 'lets eat our tunneling clothes' was just a once and done thing. He's never touched any other piece of clothing before so that was odd, but glad it's over. ... And just curious, is pumpkin a natural lax or something?

Pumpkin will help bulk up stools by absorbing extra moisture, however, it will also help "push through" anything in the bowel as well.
