Cubby age @ 4-5 yrs came to us about a year ago from Maff as a Rescue-he was abandoned in an enclosed box with 7 others at a local dump(I hate these kind of idiots)
and after a period of time we being a Shelter/Hospice took 4 total to ease that shelter's numbers.
Well recently- i had been hearing weird sounds -gurgling bubbling ect and in a couple weeks i started to see it was Cubby as he began to throw up his soup. So off to the vet i went- our reg vet was tied up so we went to our back-up vet. Xrays were done - including Barium and nothing found- no megasophagus - so she believed he had a forming ulcer and sent us home with meds- days went by - him getting thinner - me feeding every hour just a few spoonfulls and he would startI told the prev shelter director & she suggested i take him to her vet 45 mins away - so off we went- same thing x rays , barium - dr said - well just don't feed him soup- a few days later- I called my orig vet as feeding every hour became too much and i hurt for him.
Hard times these days make it tough to do heroics but we try to do as much as possible to save a life-
well my Vet -was now available and i felt she would find an answer - so x rays- lots of barium in his soup and 3 1/2 hours later-(after my hubby & i got other films from first vet) & more x rays done and it apprears to be either a tumor in the stomach or a foreign body- 3 choices- surgery and if tumor- let him go on the table-$500.00 2nd choice surgery & foreign body - remove & hospitialize for a few days - $1000.00
or wait & see if anything changes after the barium. Just the $350.00 we paid for this visit.
Guess what- he no longer is throwing up! it must have moved some of hairball? out as he does make a little noise and a little tightening but eats his chix soup on his own and keeps it down. I am also giving Lax .. I left a message for the vet this am .. Could the barium really have made the difference? he had a lot as he kept eating the mix- which surprised me at the vets.
I watch & pray his struggle is over -just needed to share in case someone else has similar situation... check for hairballs !!
