So, I took Paulie to the vet because he started suddenly having a hard time with his shed and I wanted to make sure everything was ok. This time, I saw a vet that .... owns a ferret (same clinic as the last awesome vet). She thinks its Paulie's IBD acting out a bit--plus regular old hairballs. She gave me a specific dose of ferrretlax to give him. And then, agreed with the other vet=Fat no lymphoma. So, we are going to wean Paulie of pred and control as much of the tummy troubles as possible with diet. So she prescribed metrodozinole (sp) and Amoxycillan. Of course, I joked about the bad taste. So did she, then said "That's why I make it transdermal". ;)That's right, I get to put the icky meds on Paulie's ear skin to give him the meds. That made my day, despite the hefty bill required for using antibiotics to help as the pred tapers. So, folks, there is a non-oral metro.

Holy jeebus ... that's awesome My Pixie had 15 days on the old metro and that almost seemed worse than what it was treating, toward the end there. Hope your guy starts feeling better!

That is fantastic. I hate metro....the guys that I've had to use it with usually stressed so bad that I wondered if it was worth it. Poor Porthos used to get dosed over the toilet...so he would pee in that instead of on me ciao

That's fantastic news that they make that stuff transdermal now! I've not had to use it yet, but figure I will at some point, and was dreading it You must be so happy he'll be getting off the pred, too

Yeah, now I'm trying to figure out if it was a mix she came up with for ferrets or something she researched for them because she owns one (and she couldn't believe Paulie was bigger than her ferret). She's and MSU vet school grad and they have a ferret health group at the teaching hospital, so it could be something that she learned there--she's pretty young. I'd ask about it though when you visit--maybe not every vet knows or doesn't prescribe because it costs more. I'll pay a little more moolah to not overstress my boy. She sent me home with finger caps so I don't get it on me. And I am so happy to be getting off pred. He can get rid of his big belly and get some muscle again.
