So now since I have Percy, I had to really hit the ground running when it came to raw feeding. He hasn't had much of an appetite for the past week or so, but he just started eating bone again last night (RCGH wings) and he got another this morning, and I plan to give him a drum stick tonight as he hasn't had bone for literally the entire week due to his picky eating. My main issue is that I live in the boonies. I can't find any organ other than liver, and can only find hearts in those packs of gizzards and hearts... which means in each pack I get like, half a heart. I have lung treats and I gave him one this week along with a chunk of beef for a meal. Is it okay if I buy dehydrated meat like that online to give instead of fresh heart/organ? Or should I use a taurine supplement if I can't find heart? I don't know what to do. I keep going to the butchers in our grocery stores and asking about the meat I have missing from Percy's diet, and all they tell me is that you have to come at the right time. Well, I have been there a zillion times, even the times that they tell me to go, and they still don't have a thing!!!

How possible is it for you to make an order to something like Hare-Today? You can stock up on organs (kidney, lungs, etc) and hearts that'd last you (and my precious Percival) quite a while.
Otherwise, I would supplement with a taurine supplement.
I find beef heart is much more readily available in the grocery stores than chicken hearts for some reason, and use that with the kids for their heart. I prefer the chicken hearts when I can get them (as I don't have to cut those up!) but beef heart does work in a pinch!

You can get beef heart at Walmart a lot. That's where I usually get it. :3

Really? I've always looked for beef heart but I'll have to look closer. It grosses me out to the max but I'll live. I plan to order some whole prey and stuff from Hare-Today, but I'm taking my good old time as I made QUITE the shopping cart...! It sucks when shipping is like $50, as it's only worth buying in bulk.

Another possibility, Emilee, is asking the butcher to order you a case of it.

If you don't see it at the meat counter, ask the associate. My guess is they do carry it. I can get it in every grocery chain around here, and Walmart too. It's usually over to one side where the lamb and veal and weird pork selections are - you'll find tripe and kidneys there also, in most stores.
