Hey guys-
I've just adopted 2 new babies from someobody who could no longer take care of them. Bradley is 1.5 - 2yrs old and so is Gwen. They are very sweet and of course, adorable (pics to come soon!)
I'm having trouble introducing them to the gang though (Mia, Marcellus and Vincent).
I've read on many sites that wrestling is normal and only a problem if blood is drawn but I can't help but break it up when I see it happening! My gang has been around many other ferrets before and I've never seen this behavior from them.
It's difficult to always tell who is starting it but from what my boyfriend and I have observed during playtime- the new guys are the instigators.
My boys Vincent and Marcellus don't seem to mind (I just hate the loud squeeks they make while wrestling...makes me nervous)- I've only seen Vincents tail get puffy a few times...is that normal when wrestling?
Mia on the other hand, doesn't seem to like wrestling with either Bradley or Gwen. Her tail gets huge, she hisses and backs away. I know her and I can tell she isn't thinking this is fun!!
I know it takes time but I would just feel better if I had some of your guys' opinions, ideas, ect.
I always supervise playtime and they are of course being kept in seperate cages until they can get along and used to one another.
HELP?! Thanks

Introductions are always stressfull for everyone , especially for the human pets Sounds to me like everything is going fine. Poofy tails, screaming, petty bickering that's just ferrets. Pooping and blood, then you move in. Try (I know this is difficult)try, not to interfere. The more you move in and interfere the longer it will take for everyone to figure out where they fit in socially. Remember, your little furbabies are territorial....you've just upset their territories, now that all has to be worked out again Good luck, keep us posted ciao

Thanks so much for the reply!
I will do my very very very best to stop getting in the middle of them. I know they just have to do their thing. I just don't want my original gang of 3 to get angry with me or anything!
I will definetly keep you posted on how the introduction goes!

When i went to the rescue to pick out Lily (i REALLY need to get new pictures of the gang, hah) she and Chewey wrestled, she chattered, open mouthes, the whole shebang and i got nervous as well. The rescuer said this was all normal and all in good fun. However when I put Chewey in with another ferret, Tipper, all heck broke loose. Tipper grabbed onto Chewey's neck and would not. let. go. Chewey started chattering and wiggling, Tipper held on tighter until the rescuer had to break them up. thats how i know the difference between playing and aggression.

Sherry i love how in the first video you have calm, tranquil music playing in the background while your ferrets are like screaming, hah!

It only takes a couple of deafies to make one realize that these are "not" silent pets ciao

I have to admit, the one DEW I can no longer introduce to any new ferrets. Those videos are mild compared to how she has become.

I've got one group (and it's getting smaller, they're all older now ) that I can't introduce any new ferrets in. Odin, Lady "B", Thor and Ghenghis just will not accept any new ferrets and have become very aggressive toward any newbies. Odin and Thor were actually surrendered because of their aggressive tendencies toward other ferrets. Both were very receptive when they were younger but now I sometimes wonder if I had the time to sit with them I could get them to accept the second playgroup but Fun-Go just rubs Odin the wrong way. Odin will actually hunt him down to hurt him . I think because Fun-Go is deaf and seems to have problems communicating properly (his body language and his vocalization is totally backwards) that this may be part of the problem. ciao
