Eh, I've seen that video on Youtube before. Don't consider it an accurate representation of ferreting- it's staged. Fake warren with a glass front and small, docile [likey domestic] rabbits. Even the ferret seems sluggish and unsure of how to handle the rabbit. Here's some real ferreting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=58fycdE71uo

Its been a long time but I know you can do better than that! And for those of you who think thats over hunting, remember, in lots of places rabbits are invasive! Meaning if we don't eat them almost no one will, so we must make up for the lack of population control! Polcaty, please show that other video, because I saw no ferrets, for they where all under ground! I liked that one that was that little boys first time!

If you want to discuss ferreting, ask Lorelie (sp?)...she uses her little ones to hunt out rabbits. She's posted pics of her little ones and the work they've done. Please remember....over here most places have outlawed the use of ferrets for hunting. Please check your local bylaws before taking your little ones out. I know here in Canada it's been on the books for years. Now, I know that people do it anyway, but remember the authorities will confiscate and destroy your furbabies if they catch you and you will be subjected to fines. Don't give the animal rights people more fuel to ban our little ones, stay within the laws. We don't need more Californias. I was rather impressed with the first video featured by polecatty....it's well done. They're fast, quick to end and discreet about it (they turn away from the camera when they finish the rabbit) Lorelie is this a good representation of a hunt? Are there limits or does it depend on the area you're hunting in?....I've seen hedgerows like this one where the rabbits have overun the whole area and have become a huge nuisance. No, there are no pictures of ferrets actually hunting but if you look closely (noticed an albino in the hands of one of the hunters). What takes them a day, takes a trapper with traps days sometimes weeks to clean up and I'm not a strong supporter of trapping. ciao

Heather, I'm a ferreter also. I'm sure Lorelei will chip is once she isn't so busy with her wee little kits. It's an accurate representation of a hunt considering the number available for them to catch and the accessability of the warren...but it does vary from location to location. We have a lot of rabbits here and as they are an introduced pest there are no limits. We are quick to dispatch the rabbits to be humane and also so we can get the nets back down to prevent other rabbits from escaping. A memorable day from last season. Not a massive bag, but they all came out very, very quickly, sure had my hands full! Some nice big winter rabbits [and very fluffy ferrets]. Aaron- Here's the video you wanted [Contains language, for those who may be offended!] www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKa-axC5hX0

Forgot that part! If you can tune it out, its still the best video I ever saw! ps. If I where a rabbit, you'll never get me out of my burrow! Except maby with 90 ferrets! Wanna try?! I could draw grate burrows! millions of tunnels, but unfortunately, I can't ignore that Human instinct of barricading! Any one wanna play? The game I use to play (alone unfortunately) was prairie dogs and black footed ferrets! I'll keep dreaming, dout any one's interested!

Awesome photos polecatty. Sorry, I didn't realize you hunted also. Looks like your little ones had a very successful day. Great work. Where are you out of? You don't have to be specific, just general, more to satisfy my general curiosity of areas that allow hunting. ciao

Got the first burrow dug, its a absolute monster! Flaw, it won't fit on this forum! I'd have to shrink it, post it, and hope you can enlarge it! But if You request to see it, don't use it as a map, picture not seeing past the dirt! Normally I'd advise leaving a burrow when a mustlide goes in, but, thats where nets and guns are! I know it sounds different, but some people can't do real ferreting and wish they could! Lets see if it fits. Nope!

We're in Inland Australia, home of many rabbits.

Aaron, it would be easy enough to get you out of your warren, if you were a rabbit, haha. XD All I would have to do would be to send Roland down...no smart rabbit will stay underground with him! It would be better to risk the nets above ground, there would be more chance of escape, lol. He will stay in a warren until all the rabbits are out, he is very, very, very stubborn!

I've heard that you've got a "bit" of a problem with rabbits in the lands down under . How do you convince your little fellows to come back after they've been chasing rabbits. I'm sure my guys would just continue to play in the maze of tunnels or curl up and go to sleep (lazy little sods that they are) ciao

Oh, and I'd like to see more videos! I'll add my faves if I happen apone more! You know why I think it is that ferreting is illegal in the us other than law makers being as stupid as going on a date with a toilet? We don't consider them pest, so are laws are to give a grater escape chance!

If I where on your Continent/country, I would be grate full! I found out what happens if rabbits aren't controlled, I would not want so much destruction on my ha, uh, paws!!! But don't think I'd just crawl to you! But hear in the us, rabbits are good for us! I bet ferreting being illegal (stupid as it sounds) is a way to keep the number up! Now that this is brought back to reach, I want more videos! And yes, in the afternoon when home if not busy I'll find more. Oh, as for the nets, my pathetic attempts at showing of my creativity was murdered with the highest insult by modern technology! Even if I'm pursued close to the surface I could still find a exit hundreds of miles (not inches ) away with out one! Hoping I'm not scrufed by then.

I could have sworn I put up a video of how they don't lose the ferrets.
