Koda somehow managed to find and eat a rubber lizard - I think he stole it from my purse!!! He is throwing up and hacked up half of the lizard and seems to be ok. He still keep trying to hack up the other half though from time to time. Am I ok to wait until I can get him into my regular vet so I don't have to pay $300 just for an exam and X Ray or do I need to bring him in tonight? He seems to be ok overall, he is alert and moving around and drinking water. If he will be ok tonight I will bring him into my regular vet tomorrow, but if not I will bring him to the ER vet.... Someone please help!

I read online that I can give him a little vaseline. Will that be ok to give him if he is throwing up?

I would take him to emergency. This sounds too serious to wait out.

HOW do they manage to get into so much trouble?!?!?! I feel like such a terrible ferrent! Koda is doing better, I was afraid he was going to die on me when he first started throwing up - I thought he was choking - and of course right when I grabbed my stuff to rush to the nearest vet, he coughed it up and was better. Not all the way, but not in danger of suffocating on the spot. He threw up the head, 2 feet/legs, and tail of the lizard toy and pooped one of the legs out. AND a piece of eraser! I don't know where he got these things - or when!!!! The only thing I can think of is he somehow got into my purse and found them there... I gave him some olive oil and got him to drink water. Then I had my roommate watch him and I ran to Carrs. I got pure petroleum jelly, boneless chicken thigh, and squash baby food. I mixed the chicken, squash, a little more olive oil, and lots of water in the blender. I mixed the Vaseline with some ferret vite to get his interest in it. He ate a bit of the Vaseline/vite mix. Then I gave him the "duck soup" and he ate a decent amount. He seems to be acting normal now. I cleaned his litter out (and dissected every poop) so that I can see if he is pooping or not. I will feed him some more Vaseline and duck soup in the morning if he is still acting normal. Then I will go get some ferret laxative. If he is not acting normal...to the vet he goes. What are warning signs that I should be looking for? How do I know when I need to take him to the vet ASAP? Oh I hope I am doing everything right! I can't imagine if anything happened to my little guy!

And bring all the pieces of the lizard with you so they can see what's still missing.

He is acting alert and was trying to get out of his cage to play. when I cleaned out his litter box he dug around with his head in it...but he always does that, so I can't tell if that is incidence related or just him being his normal dorky self...he ate some mush and drank some water.

The Vet's office opens at 7:00 am. Koda is acting normal, playing, eating. His belly doesn't feel hard or anything. He is alert, no longer vomiting or coughing. I think he is looking ok. I am looking for the other part of the lizard atm, maybe he didn't eat it all? I want to give him a chance to try and poop though...

Good News: I wanted to give it a little longer before I went toe the vet. I dissected the poop even further, and found some more I missed the first time around bc it was chewed up so little - between all of the poop, and the pieces he coughed up, I Believe I have the entire lizard back! And he is playing and running and dooking as if nothing ever happened. BUT. I am still keeping a VERY close eye on him and will be dissecting any further poops, monitoring his pooping and eating and behavior, continuing to feed him little doses of Vaseline (or rather, ferret lax if I can find that) and giving him LOTS of water. If I see any signs of distress, salivating, face pawing, listlessness, further vomiting, not wanting to eat, not pooping, or acting strange in any way we will rush to the Vet. I am SO glad I found the rest (or it looks like the rest anyways) of the lizard! Now I can at least feel comfortable waiting until the morning to take him to my regular vet at the very least. WHY does he have to do this in the middle of the night when Finals are coming up?! He couldn't have waited 3 weeks? Boy did he scare me though! I will keep you all posted if anything happens. You have no idea what a relief it was to find the other pieces of lizard! I have never been so happy to look at a poop in my life!

Well, Koda was straining to poop this morning and pawing at his face so I skipped class and to the vet we went! The vet said he looks ok, but she is going to do an X-Ray. If she sees anything suspicious they may want to do an exploratory surgery..which will cost $800...JUST for the surgery...not post op care, the X-rays, and everything else. JUST the surgery. fsklfhsdjkhdfbvdmz, jgkdvj, jsdklzvn c AHHHHHH I REALLY hope that he can just pass it!!!! He is at the vet's right now - I had to do an emergency drop off surgery, and they will monitor him and get to him for an X-Ray when they can, and then go from there. IT is going to cost me an arm and a leg JUST for the hospitalization and X-Rays. I didn't even ask how much bc I don't want to know. I will have to MAJORLY dig into my loans if he needs surgery though! But I WILL do it if it is necessary! I love him! He is my baby and my buddy and my snuggler! Even after just 3 months I can't imagine life without him! Oh please let him poop the rest!

Well the vet just called. Koda has a nice little lump of junk in his belly. $800 surgery it is. They are going to get him ready now and I will hopefully be able to bring him home tonight. Everyone please pray that he comes out of the surgery ok!

Oh, my! I am so sorry! These little ones can't get into things you never even knew were there. Lucrezia somehow got into some foam rubber(we STILL have no idea how she got it!), but between pumpkin, vaseline, and lax., she managed to poop it out. It was really touch and go for a while, and she spent the night in the vets, but was fine. Good luck with Koda, and I'll be pulling for him!

A healing candle is lit for little Koda....he's a trouble maker that one Little furry paws are sending healing energy his way. Please keep us posted on your little one. ciao Trouble maker indeed! I swear there is no way to keep him out of trouble! Every time I hide something or put it out of reach, he finds it! I wish I knew where he got all of the stuff that he ate! I really have no clue! My best guess is that he managed to find my purse in the 2-5 minutes it was on the ground, he got into the trash the other day (but you'd think he'd have been throwing up sooner if that was it), he somehow managed to knock stuff off of the table that he can't even reach, or that he has magical ferret powers to make fun rubbery and chocolaty things appear for him when I am looking away. The contents of his stomach based on his poop: 1 rubber lizard, 1 rubber eraser, 1 sparkly thing (maybe a candy wrapper...not sure what it is or where it came from as I have been making sure to keep all candy locked away in my closed closet, and possibly a band-aid? I found something fabricy in his poop that looked like a piece of the cloth middle part of the band-aid. Again, WHERE and HOW and WHEN he got into all of this I haven't the slightest clue. Both my bf and I have been keeping everything chewable or edible out of reach or locked up, but apparently he is trickier than we thought...or magical. No call from the vet yet...I am getting impatient...I want to know that he is ok!
