I've only been a ferrent since late November, so my babies have never experienced a warm, sunny day in their lives (until today). I took them out a few times during the winter, but they weren't exactly interested. They shivered a lot and always wanted to run under the step rather than dig in the snow. I took Virtute for a walk in January, but she was much more content observing the world from the comfort of my coat. I attributed their outdoor aversion to the fact that they were still kits and the weather was too cold for them.
Well, today I have decided that it is officially spring. We had a few nice days here last week, and then BAM, snow. But today it was 23 degrees celsius, which is abnormally warm for Nova Scotia this time of year. I took them out and they seemed to enjoy it for a while, but then they began to get frustrated. One of them wanted to explore the grass while the other wanted to check out the driveway. They were pulling me every which way and it was impossible to get them to walk with me. I knew they'd had enough, so I took them back in the house and they were very happy to have their freedom back. It was very disappointing because I have so many plans for the summer... kiddie pool, sandbox, lots of walks, etc.
I'm sure everyone here takes their fuzzbutts outside... Please tell me how you do it!! I can't afford an outdoor enclosure right now or a stroller, so they have to wear their harnesses. Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

One at a time I just thank the gods the ferrets aren't 100lbs each, otherwise when I took them out together, my arms would have been 10 feet long

What Sherry said. One ferret per human. It's just impossible any other way without an enclosure.

Ive taken all three of mine out at once quite a few times but it can get frustrating most of the time its ok for us I just put all thier harnesses on and let them drag thier leash I have a pretty big yard and it seems to work ok to let them run a bit just have to untangle the leash from a tree or flower sometimes and when they do decide to make a break for it the leash dragging behind them makes then easier to catch

exactly- one at a time! I tried to take both Lily and Chewey to the beach yesterday and OF COURSE Chewey wanted to explore the dunes while Lily wanted to lick up the entire ocean and i was standing in the middle of the beach, arms stretched out yelling "Guys I cannot go two ways at once- make up your mind!!!!!" I ended up with both of them alseep on my lap, trying to get away from the wind *Sigh!* next time i only take ONE!

You mean the Luck Dragon? (I have kids, can ya tell?) Yeah but he had a terrier dog type of face. Would have been neat if they had gone more ferrety.
