Ok so I know I have asked about fish before, but now I have a very different question. I have an empty tank or two and have been considering putting fish in them. I already have a billion decorations and rocks and everything but a filter and fish. lol Anyways, I have read somewhere here that it is not a good idea to feed like pet store fish because of the chemicals and stuff that they treat the tanks with.
My question is slightly different. I want to buy some kind of fish that is healthy for Koda to eat in small amounts that I can cleanse/breed on my own. Then I could put them in a dish or the tub and let him catch them for fun! (once he knows they are food anyways). I figure if I put them in clean, chemical free water and feed them natural food (like kelp and veggies and stuff, seaweed is pretty easy to find at the oriental market) and keep them for long enough to cleanse the chemicals out of their systems that they would be ok. Then, I could even breed them (I hear guppies are really easy to breed?) and feed him the second generation fish who I would know were not treated with any chemicals and stuff and got only natural diet.
Is this an ok idea? How long would it potentially take a fish to be "cleansed" of bad stuff in clean water and a natural diet? What types of smallish-breedable, freshwater fish are ok for ferrets to eat? I would essentially be cleaning and gut loading them....
I figure it would be a nice little treat for him, some fish fun for me since I have been debating getting fish anyways, and fun for him too. What do you think?
