What is the best thing to put inside a dig box? I was thinking either packing peanuts or rice. Not sure where to buy packing peanuts, though.

Good Question! I believe that most people here use long grain rice (NOT the instant kind), balled up pieces of paper, plastic Easter eggs, ping pong balls. Pretty much anything safe for the fuzzies that is fun to dig in. If you use packing peanuts they MUST be the starch ones, NOT Styrofoam because if they eat them the starch will dissolve and pass through whereas Styrofoam will cause a blockage. That is my understanding of dig boxes from when I have been reading here. I am sure other people who know a lot more than me will be on soon to add to or correct me if I made any mistakes.

You've got it right hurricanekatt. I believe you can order the cornstarch ones from Drs. Foster and Smith. I've got 3 dig boxes usually on the go. I try to switch them up every few weeks. One has long grain rice. The only rice you can't use is instant. It will swell up in their tummies to cause a blockage. Another is paper gone through the shredder(nice to know the paperwork is good for something ). The other is pingpong balls mixed with plastic eggs. Here's a link to various enrichment ideas, including dig boxes: holisticferret.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=enricharticle&action=display&thread=4019

Yah, you have to watch those sock and underwear drawers . My daughter was totally disgusted to see a pair of her bright red undies doing the wild weasel war dance down the hall....wouldn't have been so bad if it had been just family.... ciao
