Well... no. I order from RodentPro.com, and as their website says, the $40/box shipping covers the insulation, dry ice, and insurance. Shipping frozen stuff is always expensive. I have to wait until I can handle a $200+ order, and fill up the whole box -- their "box space calculator" is really helpful. That way the shipping cost is spread out and more "affordable."
You may want to look for a local source, like a reptile breeder or independent pet store. However, I haven't found those to be any cheaper per mouse... but you can get a few dollars' worth at a time instead of a bulk order.

Check if there is a reptile rescue. They can likely give you the name of a local provider.

That would probably depend on where you live. Im lucky that Big Cheese is about 10 minutes from work. Cost a little more but I don't have to pay shipping.

some frozen prey providers allow you to pick up the order on site. so your shipping cost is spent on your traveling time, fuel and wear and tear on YOUR vehicle. You supply the means to transport it frozen. I've been ordering from rodent pro for a short while. I feel there is a trade off for convenience of feeding thawed rodents vs spending time raising, cleaning and feeding them (which takes time away from my ferrets). I recently did a price comparison with three other whole prey providers here in FL and Rodent pro STILL beat them in cost AND quantity as well as variety.
Got a shipment coming in tomorrow: 200 Mice: Large Adults @$0.350 ($70.00) 125 Chicks: Small @$0.120 ($15.00) 100 Rats: Fuzzies @$0.290 ($29.00)
Sub-Total: $114.00
S&H: $45.67 (Cost of packing materials, dry ice, and insurance are included.)
Order Total: $159.67 I try to buy when they are running their sales and stuff the box as full as I can! This order offers about 375 meals which means each meal runs about .43! This will feed my 5 natural eaters for 75 days at a cost of 2.15/day!
SO I try to "save" 2.25 per day to be able to place another order. Because I also feed raw items this order will actually last longer than merely 75 days.
Cheers! Kim

Oh well, guess I'm stuck with local mice. I don't have enough freezer for a huge bullk of mice.

I just called the local pet store and they want $1.59/mouse (adult). That's really expensive! I'm thinking of just starting a colony... I used to breed mice with my dad when we first got our snake... But I don't want to do it while I'm in a rental house, just in case. LOL.

That'd feed my two for 6 months. I know what I'm buying next month! I want to get them used to it anyway. Thank you!
