Unfortunately, I have to re-home my 4 ferret group. We are moving and have been unable to find housing that will allow the amount of animals we currently have and a few just wouldn’t allow ferrets because of their “exotic diseases” and “destructive nature”. I have been looking for housing for a month and a half and haven’t been able to find a place yet.
We currently live in Lawton, OK but will be moving the first week of July. We are moving to Columbus, GA and could drop the ferrets off if it is near our route but I couldn’t get the cage to them. If someone picks them up in OK or GA, the cage comes with them. The military is moving our stuff and the cage wouldn’t fit in the car so they are moving that too.
I have a male and 3 females that get along great with all people, our 2 dogs and our 2 cats with no problems. They really enjoy following our 2 year old around the house and tend to play near her or with her. None of them have biting problems but Nereus and Audra like to play bite/fight with people.
They are litter box trained in the cage and we put 2 boxes outside the cage after we learned their preferred toilet areas. All of them use the box pretty consistently but on occasion, I will find a little ferret poo outside the boxes.
They have been to the vet and have been found free of medical problems and are updated on shots until February 2010.
They have a 2 story ferret nation cage with 2 sets of bedding, 2 litter pans, bowls and small house. The cage is only really used for night time since I am home during the day and they are allowed to run free until I go to bed or leave the house.
They are eating a mix of evo kibble, stella and chewys and ziwipeak. They have eaten raw before but I switched all my animals back to dehydrated type foods after my toddler started finding food around the house.
Nereus (means “lover of water) is estimated around 6 years old. We adopted him from a couple that owned a ranch and didn’t have time for his care anymore. They got him from a family that asked them to pet sit for a weekend and never came back for him. When we got him, he was solid yellow and skinny. His hair would fall out when you touched him and I honestly didn’t think he was going to make it much longer. We switched him to Evo kibble and eventually switched to raw diets. I later switched to dehydrated raw foods for the convenience because our toddler was finding food pieces around the house (all of our animals switched to dehydrated). Now he is solid and looks sooo much better, not as good as the youngins but great in comparison to when we brought him home. I thought he had adrenal disease but had him tested 2 times and he is clear. He had a bald ridge along his spine that later grew back in. His hair is now white (a little yellow still) with a few dark hairs scattered across his body. Nereus loves shoes and swimming in the tub. He really likes the water to be high enough that his front feet barely touch so he can float around the tub. His favorite sleeping spot is a bread loaf pan in my kitchen cupboard. Nereus tends to be a groomer, he really likes cleaning people’s hair and licks people a lot. He is from Marshall farms.
Hestia (means “mother figure, of the hearth”) She is in charge! When we made the intial switch to raw foods she was a stubborn little pain, she eventually gave in but still grouched about her food options before eating it. Hestia came with Nereus and is also around 6 years old and came to us in bad shape as well. She is really small to begin with but when we got her she was skin and bones and mostly yellow colored too. Now she is white with markings that look like a dark brown cardigan sweater and a faint blaze on her head and a dark tail. She is the most dramatic of the group (“I can’t believe you woke me up for this!!”) and makes a big show of everything she does. She is the calmest of the group and is most likely to be found curled up asleep somewhere. She sleeps really hard—we have had more than a few moments where I was worried she was dead, barely perceptible breathing and doesn’t react when you move her or pick her up. She is a Marshall farms.
Bronwyn (means “white beast”) She is our teenager. I adopted her from a girl who had too many ferrets to take care of and a dog who began attacking Bronwyn. She is a year old this summer and loves squeaky toys and Evo dog kibble. She is mostly white with some dark black hairs scattered throughout her coat. She doesn’t like water and loves to ambush people or animals while they walk around the house. Her winter coat makes her look double her summer size. She is a Marshall farms.
Audra (means “storm”) is quite the little terror when she wants to be. She really loves to play fight with anyone, the other ferrets, the cats, the dogs or people! She has an extreme liking for combat boots (I think it’s the material the heels are made of) and will attack them at any opportunity. She is a lover of small dark holes (always fun to get her out) and rubber toys. Audra will take flying leaps off of furniture to catch animals or people. She is an expert at climbing up kitchen drawers. She is marshall farms and was purchased at a pet store by my husband. She is very dark brown/black all over with a defined mask and “sweater” with a creamy colored undercoat.
I can email photos.
Thanks,
