Don't you just love the internet....can't live without it now that we use it for primary communications . Server problems?? or just email?? Which also goes, if I suddenly don't check in for 24 hrs chances are it's raining here...I have satellite and if it rains hard, I don't get any service. Yay, Rascal...you go little guy. Your momma will have you munching and crunching good things in no time I will keep checking in and picking up your thread when you post. Try and keep posting as regular as possible. ciao

Ok, I will answer your last question first. In regards to your mentor, Giuli got in touch with me yesterday....guess what. Hi I'm Heather, and we're going to be working together for the next little while trying to convince your Rascal to change to a healthier diet I've been feeding a raw/natural diet for a little over 11 yrs. I have a small private rescue/sanctuary, just outside of Toronto where all ferrets turned into me are switched immediately over to a raw diet that consists of ground raw/whole meats or frankenprey/ and prey diet. At present every ferret eats this full range of diets. I don't keep kibbles in the house. All my furbabies are free roaming and have access to an outdoor play area that they can access at will. At present there are 15 little fuzzbutts who call this their permanent home. They range in ages of about 2 yrs to my little senior citizen, Babushka who is 10 yrs. Now completely switched over and eating whole prey just like everyone else and putting on a beautiful dark black coat, teeth that are now nicely cleaned up, and she actually has a lot of fun investigating the house (she used to do nothing but sleep when she first was turned in). She has made me aware that every ferret no matter how old, can get a new lease on life by eating a species appropriate diet. A lot of my guys are hard core cases that are either turned in as abuse cases or are biters. I find that feeding a natural diet appears to work some of the nasty out of the biters and sometimes turns around or turns down some of the severe health issues that plague the abuse cases. Rascal's moving along nicely, so as you're going to move and this is going to be stressful to both you and your furbaby I would leave things as they are. Feed exactly what you've been doing and just let him deal with one stressor at a time. Once you've got yourself settled in (a couple of days) and we find out how stressful the whole proceedure is on Rascal we will start probably with removing the last of the baby food and possibly adding a few bigger chunks to his soupy. Some ferrets look at moving house as one big adventure, others do not. So keep a close eye on your little guy but as long as you're there with him and he gets his play times with you and his usual food there shouldn't be much of a problem. The bonus about ferrets vs say cats is cats find shifting their territory extremely stressful, ferrets look at it as an adventure (most anyway ) I will check in later today, but realize with all the upheaval that I may not hear from you for a little bit. Get back and check in when you've got a moment ciao

What was wrong with the food I've heard most like their product?? I'm glad the move was a success and your little one is getting used to his surroundings....Carpet shark tearing up the carpet...no I hope he didn't do to much damage. Baby gates are a challenge to most little ferts. There has to be something better on the other side otherwise why would momma not let fertbaby through Are you taking your little one outside for a walk? What an awesome adventure. My guys love to go outside and play in their play area. I will check in later and see how Rascal is doing with his food. ciao

I very much understand about meat smelling off. No, you're right, I probably would have asked for a credit or whatever. I know these little guys can handle some really toxic pieces of meat (I've seen them eat some horrible stuff that I've seemingly missed and they've dragged out of hiding ) How did Rascal do with his food today? Eating more raw? I don't like using no rinse spray shampoos. Our guys clean themselves like cats, therefore ingesting whatever cleaning agent is used. It goes the same with those perfumy sprays that are sprayed on ferrets to make them smell less like ferrets . My guys get a bath maybe once or twice a year (depends if a wrestling match finds its way into a litter box or not). Clean bedding, raw feeding and allowing them to play in clean rice, dirt and bean boxes seems to keep my guys smell down considerably. This is of course my personal opinion and there are others that make use of these products liberally. Travelling and seeing different places and meeting other people is one of the most stimulating things that our furbabies can do (other than actually hunting like they're suppsed to ) My guys love to travel (they'd like it better if they didn't have to be confined to a cage when travelling and were allowed to freely roam my poor van;)) I'm glad that Rascal has found travelling is much to his taste. ciao

You're doing great As far as feeding it's fantastic. You can start pulling more water as he gets more comfortable eating your ground mix. You might also want to put a couple of tiny chunks of meat (the size of your fingernail tip) mixed in with his fine ground food. It might be totally rejected but I think he's probably ready to try soon. I will check in with you later. Keep up the great work, and yes enjoy the spring world with your furbaby ciao

What about replacing the baby gate with plexiglass? I've known some that find this a much better solution. I've not found a baby gate that will hold my crew...naughty little brats . How does he like his new clothes? You will have to post a pick of him all dressed up to go out . You will get some resistance to new textures and tastes but he will probably take it with a little persuation. Persistance is the name of the game, that you're playing right now. Some fuzzies take to it easier than others. You both are doing fantastic. Good luck finding something that will present a decent barrier for your little explorer. We had an ongoing battle with Mad Max (he can climb into the top of a closet...so you can guess some of the difficulties this little miscreant can create ) I will check in with you tomorrow. ciao

Sounds like he's doing great. So he's eating chunked meats with a little water added? I'm glad that he enjoys the outdoors. It offers them so much stimulation and they so love it. I will check in with you later to see how it's going ciao
