I just noticed the google ads at the bottom of the forum. In the general chat area I saw a link that said "best ferret foods."
Ever curious, I clicked on it to see what it showed. Would it say Marshalls? Would it say Totally Ferret? would it, *gasp* mention BARF, RMB, or Whole Prey???
you'll never guess what came up....
*pause*
it came up with DOG FOOD!

Ugh .....yeah we have to have those because we arent "ad free" at this time. In order to be "add free" it costs money. Here is some info on the program: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OverviewOur monthly ad-free program is a paid service designed for those forums hosted by ProBoards.com that wish to remove the advertisements from their message board. For the price of $7 per month, we provide your board up to 50,000 ad-free pageviews per month. How does it work? All of our paid services are run on what is called the "credits" system. For each dollar that is donated to a forum, we add one (1) credit to the forum. Any member at a forum can donate as few or as many credits as they want to a forum. This means that you can have many different people donate to share the cost of our paid services, making it even more affordable for everyone. How many credits does ad-free cost per month?Ad-free costs 7 credits per month, which costs $7.00. What if I get more than 50,000 pageviews a month? If your board receives more than 50,000 pageviews a month, you can apply another 7 credits to your account to increase your ad-free pageviews by an additional 50,000 for the month of your choosing. Does my ad-free roll-over to the next month? It is important to note that this is not a roll-over service. Unused ad-free pageviews from one month do not roll-over to the next month. For example, if a forum activated the ad-free service for the month of December on December 15th, the forum will stop being ad-free at the end of December 31st. ---------------------------------------------------------------- If we are ad free I can post private ads for bedding makers, rodent pro, raw food providers, pingfords porridge, etc. Proboards support said I can't post these ads if we arent ad free because its a TOU (terms of use) violation. If you guys would like to be ad free you can click down at the bottom of the board where it says "click here to make this board ad free". I would pay myself but I am a tad broke at the moment lol I just purchased the HF logo, emoticons, forum graphics, and t-shirt designs. I planned on making it ad free when I got some more cash, but if you guys want to help you are more then welcome (though certainly not obligated )

Oh, i don't mind those links down there at all. I just thought it was funny that apparently, according to google, the best ferret food is dog food. HAHAHAHA!
On the ferret.com forum, they have ads at the top of the page. I think they look for words in the topic titles or the message bodies themselves, and then post a similar ad at the top of the page. In the rainbow bridge section, you can get some interesting ads at the top.....
Oh, and no google ads are showing up right now, as I type this. *sigh*

Just an idea - I know there will eventually be people on here (myself included) who will want to advertise their wares, possibly more than just in the ferret stuff section. Might be something to consider asking for a couple dollars a months to advertise As the numbers increase in the forum, it'll cost more monthly, if I'm reading correctly, so it could start off small, and increase as needed. I know that when I'm ready & adv tested I will certainly be willing to do this....just some thoughts

Thats a great idea, Jenn. Proboards said its a TOU (terms of use) violation to have personal ads up when you are not an ad free board. Having those that want to advertise pay like 1-2 dollars a month wouldnt cost much at all. Then since we'd be ad free we could have personal adds up. Good idea.

My site is a ProBoards site also we pay about 14 bucks a month to keep it ad free, soon to be 21. I like to use our members ads on the site to support them and so when someone clicks on a google ferret ad they don't get a dog food or a dating service.
I would suggest when you do go ad free and want to use your own ad's, set up a test site first to try out the codes and links that you are going to use to make sure they are working correctly, i almost blew up my site with a bad code lol not that the site cant be fixed it just will be down till you can get back in to fix it and would be an inconvience to the members.
