Rascal can climb. Lars can jump. So I need to find a barrier that will keep them out of the kitchen. I set up a wood thing that kept out Rascal fine. But Lars very easily jumped that the first try. So I tried a box. The box is about 2 1/2 feet high. He jumped a few times and got over. He did this twice before I put him back in his cage. I can not have ferrets in a kitchen that is not proofed.
I need something that is not going to make it impossible to get in and out of the kitchen for the human members of the household, but one which Rascal cannot climb, and Lars cannot jump.
Any suggestions?

we made a homemade barrier out of plywood cut to the length and height that we needed and two wooden strips down the side of the door way see pic..we had to make two different size boards as the ferrets that jump managed to make it over the first one. As long as it is tall enought no one can jump it and there is nothing there for anyone to climb it. one of these on both sides of the door way sliding down closed hope this helps

The only issue is that we need to be able to get over, and Lars is more of a Tigger, so it would have to be pretty high. I was thinking a scat mat could work.

I had to put up a barrier to keep them out of my sewing room. Used a regular baby gate then some cardboard to make the gate taller. I've got a few climbers and one flying ferret too. So far it has worked. it is 28 1/2" high. I just used plastic zip ties to fasten the cardboard to the gate.
Cheers, Kim

sure use the idea.
i am 5'4 and i can still get over it. it just needs to be about 2 inches higher then your highest jumper can jump.

I think I might have found something. I put tinfoil over the top, and for him to get over he would have to get over that, which comes out from the wood. So far it's working pretty well. I am getting a plastic thing to make a fenced yard for them when eating, so I can use that to make it higher if needed. Thanks for the responses.

Two ideas-
1) If he's jumping to the top and grabbing on to get over, try some PVC pipe slid over the top of the board.
2) How about having another piece of wood coming off the top at an angle (kind of like they do with razor-wire fence thingies)
Just a couple ideas, hope they help!

Ok, so we got a piece of board to put in the doorway. So far it has worked. But now they're digging at the floor. So what i am trying is wire stapled to the floor, with the edges taped so nobody gets stabbed. Little carpet sharks are forcing me to renovate this room.

I use a big cardboard box that my neices free lemonade stand came in. She is still too young to understand the concept of making and selling lemonade (she is 4 1/2) so It is still inside the box lol. anyways It it about 3 1/2 feet high and I use a small stool pushed up against it so they can't get around it. Thats what I do in my bedroom since they have always loved to crap in the corner here this drawing explains it all.

the person that i got my last two fuzzies from has the same type of wood barrier that i have and she got some of the black courraged tubing cut it open and just slid it over the top of the wood that way there is nothing for them to catch and they cant get over it.

Wow, there are so many more options then I would've originally thought. I have a feeling I might just be giving them a new room, so these tips are likely to be all utilized.
