I used it when i first got ferrets and got wise to it. It changes how the ferrets body processes food and sometimes not in a good way. I know now that any product that changes a ferrets way of processing food cant be good for them in the long run, it's just not natural.
I had 5 ferrets on bio-odor about 4 years ago 1 one them passed about 7 months ago to an unknown intestinal disorder, one of my senior ferrets with inso and adrenal developed some intestinal issues also, she passed on from the inso. The other 3 have had irregular poops that come and go and it seems to be getting worse with age, all have been vet checked and fecal samples taken and no reason for the irregular poops can be found.
I cannot say that the Bio-odor is the cause of it but i highly suspect it is, chemical additives are not a natural way for a ferret to process food. The other 7 ferrets i have have never been on it and eat the same food as the others do and none of them have had any irregular poops. This is just my opinion and observations of my ferrets.
Feeding your ferret a balanced diet and keeping the cage, litter box and bedding clean are the best ways to reduce odor.

I was using it at first, but with their change in diet to raw they have no smell. Poop is going to smell regardless of who it comes out of. As for my guys I clean their litter box out twice a day. I to am going to use a mixture of feline pine and YN's. I like the way feline pine smells and the way YN's absorbs.

Okay, my ferrets are on all natural, and their poo reeks! It smells like rotten chicken, even with the bi-odor. So, what am I doing wrong?

How long have you been feeding them raw? Also depending on what parts of meat they eat the poop smells and looks different everytime. I noticed it took a while for my guys poop to smell better...its still gonna have an odor because well what poop does smell good Something else I noticed is when they eat a mouse their poop has no smell what so ever and its completely firm! I think I might later on opt to a more whole prey diet with some raw because of the nice poops they do.

I get more on August 23rd though, so then its right back to mostly whole prey with a little raw. Usmom I know of a few people that have ferrets that cant tolderate chicken. Have you tried offering them other foods (like beef)? And if so, did their poop smell? Please start a seperate thread on this in the health and medical section and we can discuss it further

I love how we start talking about one thing and then it leads to another....lol. I Love Fresh Pine. However I can not use it because one of my ferts, it causes a kind of reaction. It messes up her res. system. So now I use YN.

Wood stove pellets can be gotten at most feed stores/farm supply stores/hardware stores. We're using a mix right now of about 60% news paper bits, 30% wood stove pellets and 10% YN.. I don't care much for the YN though. It was just to try, because it was on clearance. It works well but I don't support Purina when I don't have to.
My ferrets, don't smell like ferrets. The only thing they smell like is grape soda (the tail smell). I can't say that their poo don't stink because they get fishy treats. But, if you have an issue with the over all smell of ferrets, instead of using icky stuff, you could try some PURE vanilla extract in their water. Only a few drops per bottle. People use it for rodents. I used to own mice and IMO they stink more than ferrets so if it works for them it should work for ferrets. Some say you can use imitation vanilla extract, but its got alot of sugar in it so I'd use the real stuff.

I don't support Marshalls, so since I have been savy to who they are, I have since stopped buying anything Marshalls. Either way, I still wouldn't use it. I love the way my ferrets smell! Its not musky or dirty. Yes their poops reek, but I think its because I feed salmon oil on their raw. They love it so I'm going to continue to do it. But I agree with whoever said this, if the ferret smells bad, you're doing something wrong! Of course theres all the other ways to keep them smelling good: clean the bedding, cage, surrounding areas, litter box, groom them daily/weekly basis. All this will help without the additives. Also, I wanted to comment on the vanilla extract, this is true. Using this on bedding will help with odors, plus its natural! Let me find the info...
