Yea my little girl is a priss about it too, shes danty and neat There is a thread somewhere in here about the degradation of taurine in frozen meats, if you want I could find it for you and put a link on your thread so you can read it....I freeze all my meat so thats why I did research on it......I dont think you can OD them on it...its naturally occuring in their bodies and its essential for any animals (and ours) lives (especially cats). but anyways I think mine is either 500 or 1000 mg, now that I think about it its 1000mg I think but I am at work right now so I'll have to check afterwards to be exact. I just put one capsule in one of the weekend days for every week

Ok...so I just wanna make sure I understand this. One capsule once a week? I made some pretty chunky soup and they seem to like it, so that is promising.

Yes one capsule a week The statement under your name is just a holistic statement theres a couple different ones, every newbie gets one, Giuli just adds them and the mouse is how far you are in your switch

Hey! Sorry I have not been on lately, I am out of town in Illinois for Christmas, so I haven't had my usual access to the internet. I'll be home Sat or Sun, so I should be able to get on more often. The ferrets are actually with me. Since Beatrice has insulinoma I was a little worried to leave her at home bc I don't want to have to rely on someone else to give her medicine. And not wanting them to be sad bc they are separated, I brought Badger too. They are doing well. Badger will STILL only eat if I feed it to her via my finger. And I haven't tried it yet, but I think I could probably cut up some small pieces of meat and Beatrice would eat it. She really doesn't eat much kibble, but if I catch her eating it I will just give her the meat mush I made and she immediately will eat that. I have made it a little thicker...its more like a paste or something now. More solid than liquid. I did get a ferret nation for Xmas, so I'm excited and they will be. But I will be back this weekend. Have a good Christmas!

Ok, I got back a little later than I thought, but the snow was so much fun! I did miss the 55 degrees as opposed to the below 32!
I am feeding them soup still and I don't really know where to go from here. Their soup is now chunky and consists of chicken breasts with the skin, egg, olive oil, liver and taurine. Is there anything they are missing out on that I need them to have?
Beatrice really wont eat her kibble anymore, and actually ate a few VERY small pieces of raw chicken (covered in baby food lol). Badger is still eating primarily kibble and will still ONLY eat soup off my finger! She is a stubborn one.
Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year!

oh thats ok dont worry, I actually was away on break for a bit as well, I hope your christmas went well...I had fun Right now you can get some ground chicken and we will try to mix that in with the kibble for Badger, you can mix just a very small amount in with the normal kibble with a little warm water and just mix it around a little and see if she takes to it, Im not worried about Beatrice right now, I know she has an appetite curiosity for anything...if you want you can give her chunks of meat with crushed kibble on it (I usually grind up kibble and roll the pieces of meat in it like a breading ) Your soups sound good.... if you want to add in more calcium you can grind up dried egg shells ( I usually get a batch and grind it up and put it in a container and use a tsp every soup.....oh one thing I wanted to mention, only feed one egg a week...I believe its the egg white thats not good in a large quantity for them

How do you grind the egg shell? Bc I have just been putting it in a blender and it gets small but idk if it is small enough? What if you were to only include yolks, you know like separate them? I'll go by the store and buy some ground chicken for Badger.
This is only an idea, but would cuttle bone work for calcium? Bc I have to turtles and I have to give them that...thats why I was wondering.

I'll have to ask the other mentors about cuttle bone, Im not too sure, I know that you shouldnt use bone meal powder b/c it doesnt work the same on ferrets.... I grind them up with that magic bullet grinder ( I got it aw walmart for cheap ) I grind them down into almost a powder, b/c I too am worried they arent cut small enough when I throw in a whole egg.... so its kinda up to u yea yolks are fine, although eggs are very rich so its just a rule of thumb, 1 egg per week per ferret...thats what Ive learned from Giuli

I'm a little upset bc I made some new soup and totally took the kibble out of this time, and Beatrice won't touch it . But I guess I'll add some back and keep on trying with them.

Thats fine and its to be expected, dont worry about moving fast....its a very slow and gradual process sometimes....some take to it more quickly than others, so dont feel too bad

She ate it when I added the kibble, so I'll try to do a little less each time.
I got some salmon oil for her a few days ago, like the gel capsules... Do you know how much I am supposed to give her?
