I have been eye balling the ferret nation on ferret.com for a while now. When our taxes come in I'm totally getting the ferts a new cage. Here's the thing. Some of the other cages look EXACTLY like the ferret nation and some of those cages can be bought for cheaper than the ferret nation. I was told by a shelter owner not to bother with any cage other than the ferret nation. Why?? What is the difference between the ferret nation, critter nation, feisty ferret and Marshall estate? They all look basically the same. The Marshal estate and the feisty ferret both look like they badly need covers on the one level, but other than that nothing looks different between the four.

the ferret nation cage is a bit bigger, all the doors open fully (and are also removable), all shelves and ramps are fully adjustable, there are pans to cover the wire of the frame, the shelves have plastic inserts to cover the wires.
don't know for sure as i've never seen either of the others - knowing how midwest is, i'd assume that their cages are more 'heavy duty' than the others. by that i mean that the gauge of the wires and frames is more substantial - which translates into being sturdier.
the other cages do not necessarily have the same features - they are copycats of the fn cage (they came out with them after the fn was available for sale).

Ok so the Two Marshall's cages are out (the estate and the feisty ferret) They ARE smaller than the ferret nation. The critter nation is the same size but $20 more on ferret.com than the ferret nation. I THOUGHT I saw it (the critter nation) some where cheaper than the ferret nation on ferret.com (the ferret nation is cheapest on ferret.com than anywhere else) But I need to look around and see if I find in cheaper. Both are made by Midwest.

Watch out for the "Fiesty Ferret Home" It's much smaller then the FN (and crappier imo) and I bought it for nearly the same price.... ._.

Can any one tell me the difference between ferritone and ferretvite? Do I need both or one or the other?

The Feisty and Frisky ferret cages are actually made by Prevue. They are considerably smaller than the FN, and only half of the front is a door. I made a comparison image for the Festy/FN to show the size difference, but I'm pretty sure it's at work... ask again on Monday if you still need to see!
The Critter Nation has a much smaller bar spacing than the FN, so it's even heavier.
The Marshall Estate is the same size, but the shelf system isn't anywhere near as nice, and it doesn't have the same solid feeling as the FN. And, well... It's made by Marshall.

CritterNations are from the same company (midwest) that make FNs - however, they were specifically designed for ratties and other smaller animals (bar spacing). Besides that, there isn't much of a difference between CNs and FNs.
As for the ferretone/ferretvite. The first is a liquid vitamin supplement and the other's a paste and more of a caloric supplement. People use both, some just use one or the other. Depends on you, really. I don't use either. I prefer olive oil/fish oil for vitamin and coat and I use protein based soups and baby food for any additional caloric intake when my guys are sick.

ferretone is good for all ferrets.
ferretvite is not good for ferrets with insulinoma since it's main ingredient is sugar - so, using it will promote quick highs and then a quick crash with the bg level.
i've never used it - even with young healthy ferrets. just didn't want to mess with bg level even if no med condition was present.

Certainly looks like mine! And if I remember correctly, the critter nation isn't quite as stable because it basically snaps together. CN: Size: 36"L x 24"W x 63"H Weight: 97 lbs.
FN: Size: (36"L x 25"W x 62 1/2"H) Weight: 97 lbs.

Just a word of warning about ferretone. It's main preservative is BHA/BHT a cancer causing agent ciao WOW really? What about the ferretvite? Since I'm going to be feed raw do I really NEED a vitamin for them? And if so which should I get? Ferretvite is about the only one I can find. Ferretone said it was for skin and coat and since I'm already seeing such good results from only a week of raw soup feeding I'm not really worried about their skin and coat. They already smell nicer, are softer and shinier. And yeah I think I'm sticking with the Ferret nation.

If you feed properly there is no need to supplement though many of us do feed a marine fish oil coupled with virgin olive oil. I use it instead of ferretone. My guys love it. Depending on access some also add taurine. Very few actually supplement on a blanket vitamin supplement. Ferretvite is not worth the wrapper that it wrapped around it. It's way too high in sugars and not something I would feed JMO of course ciao

Hey I mean if I can give EVOO and fish oil I'll go for that. Cheaper on me. No sense in buying something I don't need and/or could actually be bad! The whole point of feeding raw is to AVOID illness. I already use EVOO and my husband takes fish oil any how. Can you used the fish oil capsules you get for people but you know pop it open and smear the oil on some meat?? Or do you have to like buy it at a health food store or.....Well Where DO you find it?
