1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
I've been a member on the ferret.com forum and have been reading about natural diets for ferrets on there. Someone had similar questions that I wanted to ask and the moderator referred them to this site!
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I want to get my ferrets on a partially raw diet, with the option of kibble involved for emergencies. I'm not sure yet if I can handle live prey or not, but I'm willing to try.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I feel my boys need something better than dry, plain food. It's so hard to find the right kind of ingredients in ferret kibble. I'm constantly reading labels and buying multiple foods to mix together. I'd rather know exactly what I'm putting in their diet and give them the best options they have.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment? Yes, this is the perfect time. It's winter and my life has finally settled.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight?
I have two boys. Balou is my DEW and Pitri is my sable. Balou is a big boy, but not overweight and he just turned 1 in October. Pitri has always been small for a boy, but he's been putting on the weight due to a better diet. Pitri is turning 1 this month!
I don't have any health problems.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
I feed them 3 different kibbles. Or at least I try to anyways (The pet stores around here have a tendency to be out of things). Zupreem Grain free, 8-1 Crunchy, Mazuri (Very small amount Balou doesn't like it), and Evo in different ratios. I have 1 picky boy and the other will steal whatever you're eating right out of your mouth.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
No I have not. These are my first ferrets and I wanted to get myself as familiarized with owning ferrets as possible before I took on something like this. This is a big commitment that I didn't feel I was ready for until now.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
It's ironic that ferrets are carnivores because I'm mostly vegetarian. I'm not completely against eating meat or cooking it for that matter, I just don't care for it.
I want to feel like I'm in control of what's going in to my ferrets and not stuffing them with fillers and by-products.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
I have access every day.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
I'm new to this forum and not sure how to go about doing that, but I will definitely try and show off my fuzzies soon!
Thank you
