Unless you know your ferret exceeding well, only let people pet their backs, holding their faces away from them, just in case. Prevents any accidental "bites". Or perceived "bites" For sure. Even if he/she is a perfect angel I don't think I'd let people pet him/her at all simply because of how people claim this happened when it never did and can sue - or worse. Only family and close friends, I think.

I bring Koda all the time/ I haven't tried Kenai yet bc I haven't gone when they were with me since he grew into his harness lol Koda Loves it he enjoys exploring and he LOVES the attention - everyone is curious and then want to play with him when they see how mice he is. It's a great education opportunity for people.

I've taken several of mine... I brought MegaWeasel into Target once but no one knew I don't think! I just had to run in there after the vet and wasn't about to leave him in the car, so I just stuffed him in my purse. I just walked around with my hand in my purse and petting him so he knew everything was alright. It prob looked like I was stealing lol.

I take my deaf ferrets out on their leashes. Since they're deaf, nothing spooks them. I take them (usually just one at a time, but occasionally both on the tandem leash) to the pet store where I bought them (a mom-and-pop place), when I go to places to pick up food (I call ahead and order, I know pets in restaurants are a no-no, but no one can resist the ferret). I've taken them to the library when I pick up books, or on short errands, like through the McDs drive-through. Dutzi, my female, though she is not deaf, she is adventurous and rides on my shoulder on car rides. I walk them on the sidewalk on their leashes, and in the yard just to get them used to leashes (they don't go outside without being on a leash). I love to take them about because they are so cute and everyone adores them. Plus I miss them when I go out, so if I can take one, I do!

We do the petsmart trip occassionaly but I make an effort to take each ferret to the park (it's like a little nature reserve hiking trail around a lake) once or twice a week. They get a major kick out of the foresty smells and all the dirt. Usually people are curious and so surprised they can be leash trained. My biggest problem is people tend to let their dogs off-leash so I'm always ready to scoop up whoever's with me and always watching for poop...nothing ruins a good walk like dookie all over a too-curious ferret or my shoes

I take my ferts into work quite often (I work in a petstore) But other than that, I'm not too sure what places around here are pet-friendly

I take my deaf ferrets out on their leashes. Since they're deaf, nothing spooks them. This is originally why I started taking Izzy to work (I'm a preschool teacher), her temperament is perfect to be around little kids or even older folks. She's just a love! But it's "my" room and I know how clean it is, and how healthy the children in my class are, so I never worry about that. Heather, thanks for the advice. I have a friend from college who works at my local petsmart, and I've sent her an e-mail to see what she thinks Because my gut tells me the floors aren't clean enough (I've seen dogs from the local pound in there trying to get adopted, and they don't vet them beforehand), but my two would love to be in the cart even

That's how I got Napoleon. Little Mischief chose him. They stuck Mischief in the cage with all those little kits and he chose Napoleon ciao if/when i get another kit thats how i plan on choosing them, ichabod we took him in and he picked crane, and they played so hard in the extra playpen they had, and i was so excited after getting icha without squigs permission i felt they should be a part of the process, i mean they are going to possibly be life mates so it is their right to pick

Brady just went on a trip to Petco and Petsupermarket last weekend. At Petco a lady scooped him up (after asking if it was ok) and he gave her kisses (sugars as she called it) right away. She was in love and I was a proud momma. he's such a good-natured baby

I always take my guys to events and stores. ADV never really scares me because it's kind of like choosing to not go out when the flu's around. It's not very nice to keep them and hide them. Plus if they can educate people how to hold, touch, what they eat, and such, I feel it's worth the risk.
Monny use to go to car shows. XD

I've never taken my kids to a pet store, but I've been tempted to. Not at all at once, of course Probably would take Bonkers or Lincoln. Bonkers because he isn't afraid of anything, Lincoln because he is the sweetest. Maybe I'll take one of them with me today since I need to grab some ferret lax =3

Taken a ferret to a pet-friendly store before? How wise would that be? I was picturing a fuzz with leash and harness on, riding around in the cart. Another thread made me think of this. You could show it toys and see if it was interested... Any thoughts? I have brought both Kahlua and Mojito to petco on several occassions, usually because we're on the way back from like my moms or the park and I just wanted to stop in for something. I stopped doing this because of far too many children running up asking to hold/pet/touch them. I dont trust skin kids with my fur kids.

I never allow anyone I don't know to hold my fuzzies. They can pet my guys, and I often use a finger to turn their heads away from the person petting them. I don't want to set my guys up. I guess that's not entirely true. I had a young lady who was visiting her aunt. She had seen ferrets where she lived, but had always been told (by her parents) that she couldn't touch them because they were hunting ferrets and they would bite her. She originally asked just to touch Napoleon. I offered to let her hold Napoleon, so that she could have her picture snuggling a ferret. She had a great time with Napoleon and he made a big show of snuggling her, she even got a kiss, which her aunt managed to catch on camera along with a number of other photos. I'm sure that she left with more than a few photos and some happy memories of her time holding a ferret. ciao

I do let skinkids touch and pat certain ones. But ONLY if I'm holding the ferret, and they can only touch the ferret's back. I hold their head toward me, and their back toward the child.
