It is and it doesn't work or at least it certainly wasn't working for the two little ones that were turned into me. I had no idea what it was but along with some bedding, a bottle of ferret shampoo was this stuff called bio-odour. They stank despite that. Your little one is just a baby she shouldn't smell that bad a month isn't that long but, she's just a baby and hasn't been on kibble that long. Ferrets do have their own odour and though you can lessen it, they still smell like ferrets ciao

I don't know that I'd be wanting to put this into my ferret's bodies: Deionized water, aspartic acid, threonine, serine, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, phenylamine, histidine, lysine, arginine, cysteine, proline. May or may not contain sodium bicarbonate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, sodium benzoate.
That, and the fact that it gives the water a metallic taste, so they will usually drink less than they would have otherwise!

Hey- I used it at first, too, til I read the ingredients Not to worry- we are all here to learn. And with ferrets, you never do stop learning!

I read the ingredients and pitched the stuff. I honestly don't know where this couple had found it because none of the pet stores that I know of in the area carry it . Don't feel bad about considering things like this, we all make mistakes....the learning curve for caring for ferrets is huge. I'm still learning, in fact have spent the last year working with some breeders to find out even more as there is considerable differences between dealing with altered and unaltered ferrets. ciao

they try to sell it to every schmuck who gets their own ferret claiming that it will make them not smell at all, and it comes down to they will always have some smell because they are animals
heres to hoping that he gets used to it, because he should see how much your fert makes you happy and be over the smell in a second my boyfriend hates the smell of our guys but he sees how happy they make me and it doesnt matter to him

Yeah I personally thought the smell it gave the water was a little ewww any way and was not planing on buying any more once I was out any way. Especially with switching to raw I figured it would do well for smell. They didn't really seem to be effected by it too much anyway. The few times i forgot to add it to the water vs. the times I did put it in the water, I didn't notice much of a dif in the smell. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Yeah everyone who's used it that I've seen, said it didn't do anything. And with all the chemicals, I wouldn't use it even if it did work.

I hope I'm not out of bounds but all animals are going to have a little odor. If he's hoping for no odor at all, he sounds like he's too difficult to please to be worth it. Maybe it's a good warning sign for you before you get too serious and have a baby that he refuses to change or help with because it smells. I'll be he has an odor too. Is this guy the king of everything or something?

Thank you all for your helpful replies.
Here is my cleaning schedule that I've kept since I got her.
Daily, I spot clean any accidents (though she has none!) and scoop out soiled litter from the boxes. I use Marshall's Pelleted Litter. After she has finished all her food, I spray the pan she dragged it all over with a vinegar/water solution mix to kill germs and such. I also spray her, her bedding and her litter boxes with 3 spritz of Tea Tree Oil Spray from Marshall's.
Every 3-4 days, I spray all the pans with the vinegar/water solution and clean/switch the litter and boxes as needed.
Every week, I wash the bedding.
Personally I don't feel that Cassiel has an odor except for around her eyes. I honestly think it's the urine/ammonia smell from her litter. Sure, I could change her litter more often but heck, I'm already doing it daily.
What's funny is my friends have commented that there is no smell at all. They came over on the day I did a FULL litter switch and cage cleaning, so obviously Cassiel doesn't smell if they didn't smell anything. Urgh.
What's even more funny is that my cat has become a woman and started her heat cycle so she's been out in the front room because of her meowing. Now the whole front room smells like her litter but NOOOOO, he has to complain about the ferret!
I'm going to try the air purifier. When I get it, I'll let you all know how it goes. It is good for allergies too so my friend Seth won't suffer when he stops by.

I'd be ditching the tea tree oil. Not healthy for ferts. It's along the line of essential oils, if I remember correctly.

i would suggest a litter change the marshalls litter isnt the best for odor control we use feline pine, and its a pain in the butt because it turns into sawdust but if you can get used to that it helps with the smell and some baking soda in the bottom of the pan should help as well

I don't know anything about the litter...I've never seen marshal litter, I use mewsprint (pelleted paper, was using the pine stuff but stopped when I had 18 little fuzzbutts tracking it through the house all the time : But ....I so know about Tea Tree anything and don't use it on ferrets or ferret stuff....please. Like cats they can't metabolise it and it shuts down their kidneys and livers. I know it's made specifically for ferrets, but....marshals is in the business to sell ferrets, not all they do is for the longevity of your ferret If your ferret dies sooner than later than they can sell you another one, it's all about the bottom line . ciao

I agree! Ditch the tea tree oil - sadly not all things made for ferrets are not good for them. Also, you should change the litter, those pellets suck IMO. There was a thread here recently about litter... I prefer Swheat Scoop and World's Best Multi-Cat litters or a mix of the two. Then I mix in some baking soda. If you think she smells by her eyes, it honestly is probably her ears you are smelling. Ferrets have stinky ears.
