Hi,
I have two female ferrets ages 11 and 10 months old. Zephyr and Ruka. I've been feeding a raw diet to my dogs and cats for about 18 years now so I'm not new to that part of it. But to ferrets I am. I switched the girls as soon as I got them and they did great. They would eat a whole chicken neck in one sitting no problem. My one girl LOVES mice and will devour one in a couple minutes. My other girl tends to eat only the head, tail and legs. (She is starting to eat more of the torso. )
I feed them their raw in the bathroom. At night when I put them back in their cage I'll give them a little Wellness Cat kibble (grain free) in case they want a snack.
Now, the past few months they seem to have gotten a bit fussy with things. For instance, I used to be able to just give them a whole neck and they would eat as much as they wanted of it as is. Now they just want to store it unless I cut it up or smash it up. It depends on the day. Also, if I offer them a piece of meat from my dinner, they are lukewarm about it. Sometimes they will eat it other times not. This wouldn't bother me except that the new thing they they are doing is going into the cereal drawer and eating Apple Jacks! (One of them just got in there now) They are not stealing them they are eating them. Twice now Zephyr went crazy over the whipped cream on my pie and last night Ruka was drinking hot chocolate.
I feel like they are on a sugar binge! Has any one else had this happen? Oh and do their appetites change during the winter compared to summer?
This morning I ground up a chicken back and they ate some of that.
Thanks!
Cindy
