Two of my fert have loose stinky poops. Wasn't sure who it was at first, separated them for a few hours today and know it's two of them for sure. NOW Trix died on Friday, and the poops started Saturday over night (found Sunday morning). The two effected are sleepier and lowered appetite.
Could this be related to the loss, or something more? With both having it I can only think it's either that or a virus, in which cause my other fert could get it too. (It would make sense for him to not react to Trixie's passing as there was little to no interaction between them, and he's only been with us about a month now) I do have an appointment this afternoon for them, just wanted some of your thoughts on this.
Thanks

It could be stress. If you're going to the vet take in a sample to test for bacteria or parasites (I don't usually have to take a sample in, my brats are of the firm belief that donations should always be given for a job well done ) ciao

Well I did bring one each.. but they both willingly supplied fresher ones once we got there He didn't find anything obviously wrong with them, no dehydration, no fever, no abdomin tenderness. We have to wait till tomorrow for the results of the stool samples. Question though..... He did give antibiotics just incase.... though it seemed he thought the possible bacteria could be because of the salmonella in the raw food they are getting..... I'm willing to wait till the stool results before giving, as I'm not sure i buy the reasoning. Whats your thoughts on that? I feel they are designed to eat raw, and can handle the bacteria that comes with it. As well Neka is FINE and eats the same food, out of the same bowl. edited to add..... your thoughts are still welcome, but I have started the antibiotics... the amount of poop that just came out of my little 1.9 lb little girl was 3 times what i would expect even from my big boy zeke

OK Zeke threw up, however it was about 20Min's after taking the antibiotics. The vet said if they started vomiting he would say it was the flu, but did he throw up from the antibiotics or the flu. So i have chicken broth, and pedialyte. How much do I give them of the pedialyte?

That's a good question...I would lean toward that your guys have a touch of the flu. Your best weapon is to keep them hydrated. I doubt that it's salmonella....their systems process things too quickly. Are you still feeding kibbles, that might be the only way that things might slow the digestive process enough in their system for that particular bacteria to flourish. I"m not saying it's impossible but unlikely. As both fuzzes seem to be experiencing the same process, I'm thinking a virus. The antibiotics won't work against a virus but if it is indeed a bacterial infection they will. Your vet is gambling, as mine would. If it's a bacterial infection, your little ones will already be getting help to fight it with the antibiotics...it's a preemptive strike. What is the antibiotic...some are harsher and cause more stress than others? more likely to cause stomach upset. Did you give it to both? Are they still nauseaus? Will they drink the pedialyte? syringe feeding? Are they eating? Lethargic? ciao

I`m not familiar to animal antibiotics, as in how harsh they are, never having given them (actually human ones either as my kids have never needed them). It`s Chlor-palm the bottle says. I agree with everything you said about antibiotics, it`s the amount of poop and the lethargy that scared me into using it LOL
They get no kibble.
Zeke only threw up the once, so thinking it was the antibiotic. I gave him broth before the antibiotic so hopefully that will help a bit.
They were both very lethargic last night, got a bit of broth into them through syringe every 20Min's or so. They HATED the pedialyte (unflavoured). Very little runny poop over night (no solid yet). both are a bit more alert and wanting out of cage this morning. Zeke actually drank broth out of the bowl this morning, neither would touch it last night in a bowl.
thanks Heather

Something else that will help get fluids into them is soup. Depending on what the antibiotic is, and how strongly flavoured, sometimes you can slip it into a wee spot of soup(to make sure they get all of it), or even draw up a bit of tone or oil, then antibiotic, then more tone/oil, so the med is sandwiched between the two to make it more palatable to them.

Okay both of their appetites are up ( a bit). I have been feeding them soup, pumpkin, kefir and offering both broth their water, which they drink willingly. They have had no runny poops today. Though zeke seems to be having difficulty with going to the bathroom. He`s gone to the litter several times, with no results. Is this normal after a few days of diarrhea??? Could it be something else? Stool testing was negative for any bacteria/or parasites.
Neka still fine, no signs of anything, other then being a bit lonely with out his friends to play with.
Boy these little guys really like to keep you guessing! lol

Check his bottom, he could have a small prolapse from the diarrhea. Lucrezia developed that when she decided she didn't want to eat enough bone, and her stools were too loose as a result.

No prolapse, thankfully. They are both having more solid poops today. Appetite has improved as well though they still very sleepy.

Sounds like you may have been dealing with a virus, are you still giving the antibiotics? How is Zeke, still having problems pooping? If it was a passing bug, they will probably sleep it off, they're a bit smarter than we are about being sick ciao

They are doing better today. They both had a bit of energy today. Poops are getting more solid.
Yes still giving the antibiotic, only because once i started it I feel it's best to finish it. It's making the poops green.
Not 100% but definately on the mend.
