hare-today.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_27&products_id=186I have an issue in my area of finding a good variety of meats. I was wondering, is this a good variety for ferrets? I know it's ground, but it'd be a more convenient way of feeding raw, since it seems easier to get my picky kids to eat ground. I could even toss in some chicken wings and necks. Also, how long do you think 50 lbs would last 4 ferrets(3 girls weighing about 1.5 lbs and 1 boy weighing in close to 4 lbs). Is that too much to pay? Would it be worth it?

I buy from hare-today, too, and my guys love it. Whether that particular pack is worth it depends, really, on your ferts' taste. My guys aren't big on beef, a lot of ferts find tripe disgusting, and I know mutton can be iffy, as well. When I first started with hare-today, I ordered the smaller 10 lb sampler (has more species appropriate meat, and even though ground doesn't really matter, bonewise, I find my guys [with the exception of pork, which they adore] prefer stuff like quail, rabbit, turkey, cgh, pheasant, fish and the like). As for how long it lasts, well, I really wished I paid more attention to the actual amount of food my guys eat (I don't pay that much attention, since I order every month, regardless). But, the average amount eaten a day is up to 3 oz for females and up to 4 oz for males (differs obviously for each ferret, though), so that would be ~13 oz/day (+/- a bit, depending on your guys), you'll feed, and might help you do the math to figure how long a 50 lb (assuming your guys eat everything that comes in it) would last I would definitely add in some RMBs, though, and meals of heart, though.

In our household 40 lbs of meat feeds 4 ferts (2 big boys, a big girl, and a tiny girl) and 3 good sized cats for a month, so I would think a 50 lb box would be roughly 2 months worth, maybe a bit longer, with just 4 ferrets. It would stretch even further if you were also adding meals of wings/neck/heart. Edit: I love how Jackie's calculations below match up pretty good with my estimate, it tells me my guys are eating normal amounts

Here is how I calculate how much my girls eat.
As sunnyberra said, they will eat about 13 oz a day (give or take. They will probably eat much more if you're just switching.)
(max total daily oz) x 31 days = Total oz a month
(Total oz a month) / 16 oz = Total lbs a month
So for your crew, they'd eat approximately 403 oz q month, which is 25.15 lbs. So if you're supplementing with RMB, it will probably last 2 months or more.

Seems a bit pricey for just two months. I am going to have to shop around. I think there is a butcher shop somewhere around here, I just need to find it. However, those calculations were quite helpful!

Yeah, I buy all my meat at the supermarket. If it's under $2/lb I'll buy it (though cheaper is better). If I get some really good deals, I'll splurge and get more pricey meats for my babies. I need to find a good butcher and see what their prices are.

I don't know how you find everything you need at the supermarket... we have a few grocery stores and their selections are just awful. I can't find chicken necks anywhere. And the packs of gizzards and hearts I have found have hardly any hearts in them. I found ground chicken once but haven't been able to find it ever since. It's a little frustrating, to say the least! lol.

For hearts, if I can't find any I supplement with taurine powder. I shop at save a lot, and it has pretty much anything I need. Have you tried any ethnic or Asian markets? They should have a lot of the weird stuff for a cheap price.
