Ok so I mentioned ulu knives before and several people expressed an interest. I actually made a fun little infomercial type video of me chopping stuff with it...and then realized I forgot to hit record! So with the scraps left I did make another video but not as good. I will still try to post it though.
Ulu knives are THE BEST chopping too ever! I can't live without mine! They can chop right through bone, and even mince the bone into a pile of meaty bits the consistency of VERY coarse ground almost (of you really want to take the time I suppose you could make it ground haha). It cuts right through thick slices of tougher meats like beef and pork, or it can cut paper thin delicate slices of chicken. It can cut through skin (I always have a tough time getting through skin with a regular knife). It can be used to skin an animal or meat, chop slice dice. It cuts through turkey necks - takes a few good hard chops sometimes on the really Thick pieces, esp if it is frozen and handles the skinnier end easily. The flat of the blade can be used to crush things (pills, nuts for yourself lol). I can turn a turkey neck into sushi shaped slices of varying thickness, or into a pile of pulverized meat and bone mush. I can cut right through an entire chicken if I really want or Cornish game hen. I am not particular about the meat's appearance, so i tend to totally butcher things and make a huge mess in the process (hey it is fun! haha It's like Dexter! ). BUT it can be used for very delicate work too.
The Ulu knives (pictured below) cost $2.99 (I'll double check that I'm going from memory might have been a bit Less!). Shipping to the US costs $4.95, Canada and Mexico is $11.95. There are also other knives for slightly more, and I intend to look for some others as well. I will update if I find any I like. My only complaint about these particular ones is that the handle is not as fitted to your hand as the one I use. Wrapping a scrap of fleece around the handle would help with that (covers the squared off edges, mine is rounded). I have tested these ones too and they work great. HOWEVER, please know that they will come dull and need to be sharpened. They Still Work dull, but of course sharp is always better.
