I just finished getting Sugar over an obstruction. Now I think Spice has one too. He's gone from seedy poo to just flat out wet diarrhea. I noticed today that he's not eating. He just picks up the food, moves it somewhere and drops it again. He's not interested in eating at all and any firmer poops are very small, maybe a teaspoon worth.
I did catch him chomping on something yesterday but by the time I got to him, it was gone and I have no idea what it was. *sigh* The vet just called yesterday to check up on Sugar and I told him everyone was awesome. He's gonna think I'm a horrible ferrant.

Have you got any vaseline? ferret lax? I know you have pumpkin....get some into him. Give him some ferret lax or vaseline. I don't normally suggest this but you need this to pass through him ASAP. You won't have very long. Be prepared to get him to the vet ASAP. Don't worry about what the vet's going to think, if it is indeed a blockage this is a life and death situation. ciao

I've already given him laxatone and pumpkin. I have him about 1/2 tsp worth of laxatone. Should I be giving him more than that?

I don't know about amounts but if you see nothing within a bit of time offer some more. Watch closely for increased discomfort, lethargy, mouth pawing, gagging, vomiting. ciao

So far he's only been sleeping without issue from what I can see. If I don't see some significant poo in a few hours though, it's definitely to the vet.
The laxatone I got from the vet for Sugar, it says 1/2 tsp every 12 hours.

Does your vet have an emergency hot line? I would be tempted to call and ask them if it's possible to offer more ciao

Yes and no. The only 24 hours emergency here doesn't specialize in ferrets. In fact, they're the same ones that misdiagnosed the obstruction in Sugar and, according to our vet, ordered antibiotics for 2 days longer than they were needed.

He has tried to use it but all he gets is the watery diarrhea. I fed him some beachnut chicken/chicken stock and some pumpkin. He doesn't seem terribly affected yet, but he will be going to our vet if I don't see poo.
You know the odd thing, I had ferrets for years as a teenager. They never went to the vet except for shots and an annual examine. I know I didn't do completely right by them because I was a kid, but I never remember them having problems like this. I hope they're not suffering because of my bad karma.

It's the nice thing about being a child...the total unawareness of consequences. You can't worry about what you're not aware of. As an adult we become aware of cause and effect and loose that total innocence. I'm sure that hurricanekatt thought she and Koda were cursed too. This type of conversation isn't unknown on this list. No, no curse....just awareness Keep us posted of any changes. ciao

I will, I'm going to give him another 3-4 hours. If no poop then, I'll give him a little more pumpkin and call the vet first thing. There's only one vet that specializes in exotics so I hope he's there tomorrow. There is one more ferret vet listed in Ferrets USA this month so, worse comes to worse, I'll try them.

Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. I've been standing at his cage every 15 minutes, but he seems to be sleeping peacefully.

The vet tomorrow is certain. I just watched him go potty and all I saw was a thin line of poo along with a lot of water. I just called the alternate emergency hospital and found out they don't treat ferrets. My only choice is the place that misdiagnosed and mismedicated Sugar just a week ago. (Why I told them that she probably ate cotton, they said she would pass that on her own and that it was most likely just stress and/or an ulcer.)
He seems ok for the moment but he'll be on his way to the vet at 8am, no ifs, ands or buts. If nothing else, he's probably dehydrated from so much diarrhea in the last 24 hours.
