my animals are always drama queens. They hate it when I clean their ears or clip their nails.

For weighing... I bought a handheld digital scale for weighing fish. I zero it out with an empty bag hanging from it then I load up a ferret. Works fantastic and cost I think $15. That is an awesome idea!!! Thanks for sharing it!

As soon as she sees the ear cleaning stuff come out of the cabinet she hides under the table and "talks" to me all kinds of whines and rooorooo's she is the ulitmate Queen PITA!

For my guys, I just scruff and balance them on my bent knees and clip away. But they are patient, patient ferts (usually). Pixie's even getting to the point now where she just sits in my lap undistracted and lets me clip away - she'll even come running *to* me and get in my lap when she sees me with the clippers. ♥
...ear cleaning is an entirely different ball game though, and I haven't done it recently, bad me, but I've been meaning to! :-\

Aww what well behaved ferrets! Mine know that nail trimming equals lots of oil. They have learned to expect it. If I tried to without it, I think they'd protest. Your Pixie sounds like an angel.

She is ;D Pixie's the teacher of the business (you should have seen her teaching Yogi and Sian as kits, I spent that time just ) and the undisputed leader. It's been really amazing watching her come into her own after her brother died (he was the alpha of the pair, as well as a bit of a bully, but she was completely devoted to him) and she has had to "deal" with her own gang of ferts. I absolutely adore her, she's equal parts sass and ~Dignified Matron /shameless babble

My dog is the same way. I have to lock him in the bathroom with me so he can't run away. And then when I put the solution in and start rubbing his ear around he cries He's the biggest baby on the face of the planet though so I know he's not actually in pain. Nail clipping is even worse. I have to muzzle him or he tries to bite the clippers and half the time gets my hand instead.

I use some f'tone on the belly, I can get sly bandits nails done in about 2 mins, or faster. So easy!
I also do it about once a week or once every two weeks or so..
I also don't really measure sly's weight... I've been to the vet so much over his thingy that i make them weigh him everytime... bah.

We have to muzzle our border collie. He is so smart he hears my husband say "we have to clean his ears" and he immediately disappears and won't let us catch him!! I notice that adrenal ferrets produce a lot more ear wax. My current ferret has very clean ears. But he is not adrenal (knock on wood and hope the deslorelin works to prevent it in the future) He LOVES to have his teeth brushed but he hates nail clipping, ear washing, and hair brushing. We can't win them all...

Kiwi will sleep through having her nails trimmed, but if the cold metal on the trimmer touches her paw pads, she'll pull them back in so tightly there's no getting them out again!
The Ferretone-on-the-belly trick works great with her--though the first time I tried it, I put three drops on her, and she didn't come out of the Ferretone trance for three or four minutes after her nails were done; she got every molecule off her fur!
