Cassiel hasn't been eating like normal. There is SO much food left untouched now. I put out a chicken wing all chopped and mashed up so she could get to the good stuff inside the bone and she's barely touched it. It's been out since last night. What do I do?
She has always stuffed her face with chicken before...

She's been eating a fair amount regularly right? Some ferrets eat tones for days, then they fast. Keep a close eye on her, but it may just be that she's hit a plateau. If she's sleeping a lot, having problems in the litter box and still not eating then you're going to have to consider a possible health issue. For now, I would keep a close eye on her. Is she consistently eating her boned meats? It could be that she's a little ticked that she actually has to work at eating. Ferrets are lazy eaters, if they don't have to chew through bone they won't. Some fuzzes will go on strike when they're first offered boned meat and it often means taking a step back and trying again. ciao

Well she sleeps less now actually and is more active to me. She's super playful during play time and hates going back in the cage. Maybe it is the boned meat deal. I saw her eat a piece for 15 minutes before she stashed it. She finally got through it all but it wasn't a big piece but had chopped up bone in it.

Also, how often does she get chicken? If it's a really frequent meal, it might be that she's getting bored with it.

She hasn't had chicken since last week. I've alternated with beef, pork, beef kidney (though she didn't eat that), chicken wing. Even though that's 4 days worth, she hasn't had chicken since last week.

Yes, I have. And they eat it now, too, or go without til the next meal Which, unfortunately, they sometimes do

There are very few creatures that are more stubborn than a fuzz who doesn't want to do something. If they put that much of their personality into eating bones we wouldn't be having this discussion ciao

I have a couple that are on strike over a chicken back right now...it's been in there since yesterday and it's still untouched...monsters! Of course I caved and this afternoon gave them some ground deer with bone, heart, kidney, and liver....of course that's all gone and the chicken back is still untouched, if it's still there in the morning, they dogs will get it. monsters.

Since she's such a little kit, if she has a big play drive, would pounding the bone-in pieces a little bit, then playing with them with her and shaking them help increase interest, you guys think?
That's great she's eating so much variety all at once. Are kits this young still sometimes lazy about bone?

As kits, mine weren't. They always *wanted* bone and would turn their noses up at boneless meals. Now they've gotten older? They go on strike sometimes (but I'm mean enough that I usually win, and they cave in when they actually *feel* a hunger pain). Hiko, even though he's two, is still at that stage where he doesn't understand how anyone could even *think* about not eating, but I'm thinking that when his body makes up for what it hasn't had, he'll slowly become just as spoiled!

Oh-if you could find a way to hang it from the cage ceiling on the level Cassiel eats on, she might be interested in it and try to eat it because it is hanging. Mine definitely do. Sometimes, when I have medium sized pork bones, I hang them up and they have fun ripping off the meat. Maybe she would eat bone better that way for a bit? Just an idea.

It's actually not a bad idea, either. There's usually something about things dangling that really attract these little monkeys

I know! They love their hanging toys as well
