I love having fat little ferrets... theyre so rolly polly it makes me want to snuggle them which usually ends in them struggling to get away...

Napoleon has been going for daily walks around the property to try and get him to loose weight. Unfortunately, getting a ferret to loose weight during the winter is as productive as me trying to loose weight ciao

Hey- ALL mammals put on weight over the winter months, for the same reason our ferrets do! Including us! At least....that's my story, and I'm sticking with it

I think it's fine when they're younger, but Tonto has always been a lumbering lard-a**. I should have named him "Jabba" Tonto is a gross little pig in many respects, but he is the sweetest, softest, cuddliest baby ever. He loves to cuddle - when you hold him like a baby, his eyes slowly fall shut into little slits so be can soak up the attention better. EVERYBODY love to hold and cuddle that boy. He gets passed around at the vet's office. When He comes into the office, the techs grab him and parade him around in the back - he just loves it too!!!! But as he gets older, the weight is not all that easy on him (at least not the amount he gains!) I try to exercise him (he like to run the stairs), but then he eats more -jennifer

That has been my discovery with Napoleon too. The more I exercise him the more often he's at the food bowl He's always been a little lardball, his attitude on life reminds me of your fellow Jennifer. I took him to a Christmas party and the kids were sitting around taking turns playing guitar hero and snuggling the ferret. He spent 4 hrs being snuggled and hugged. He would lay in their arms or in their laps and snuggle. As one got up to play, he was handed off to the next. He loved it. Yuri went too. It was his first time in public. He did very well. ciao

That sounds like Hiro. I hope he doesn't get too fat. He's still young, less than a year and he's already 4 pounds! Oz lost a little weight so he's about 3.5lbs, and he's been sticking to it but Hiro has just been getting so big. 4 pounds is still within healthy range though, so it's good. Vets always seem to love the fluffy ones. I know mine does!

LOL!!!! I don't really worry about excessive weight until they hit 4 or 5. Vets like to see fat youngsters because they see so many older, thin adrenal ferrets that have no muscle and don't want to eat. 3 of my kids will be 6 in March. Motivating Tonto to get off fat "A" for heavy exercise is a real chore when he's the size of a small football . He plays a lot, but it's low key when he's fat. he has always been a fat, lazy boy - even as a baby. When Tonto and Shaman were young - they would exceed 5 pounds in the winter and weighed over 4.5 in the summer. Tonto was once mistaken for a cat at my vet's office when I was holding him. The gal that thought he was a "gorgeous cat" saw him from behind when his neck and head fur buried his round ears. That could never happen with Shaman since he's a hyper ferret when he's away from home. -jennifer
