until today anyway. dh gave him kibble yesterday AGAIN I hadnt gotten it to the rescue yet and henry was hungry i guess so instead of asking me what to give him he gave him kibble. Well this morning he was throwing up, kinda a white mucosy stuff. i found they chicken bones i thought he was eating behind the litter box, and his poop is dark brown and tarry looking now. he didnt eat all day until around 4pm then ate a little chicken from the chicken leg. But has slept most of the day, The vet is on vaca and has no emergency contact that i can get ahold of. I am unsure of what to do. I am afraid there is something wrong with him that i am not figuring out

Ok, a couple of things going on. It could be that the combination of kibble and just meat may have caused a stomach upset. Not all ferrets can handle the mix of kibble and meat together. Some can without upsets but others cannot. I'm not saying that is what it is and I do believe you have cause for concern. You and your dh really have to get on the same page when feeding this little one. By feeding him one and the other you are going to make him sick. Chicken digests faster than kibble. Kibble causes the whole digestive process to slow down, this can cause bacteria to build up to a point that even a carnivore cannot deal with the bacteria load. If you compromise his digestive track too much you will have to take him to the vet to deal with a bacteria overload and he will have to have antibiotics. This is not an easy fix and appears to come back and haunt them later in their lives, in the form of IBD. Does he have a temp? A ferret's normal body temp is approx 102 degrees. Has he pooped more since he has eaten the chicken? Has he drank a normal amount? Is he still sleeping? Do you or can you make up some chicken broth....just boiled chicken and use the juices....no bovril or gravy mixes. See if you can get him to drink this. When is your vet back? Has your vet not left an emergency service or call service to put you in touch with whomever is taking over while he's away? ciao

when i asked he didnt have anyone and i am not sure when he is back i think next mon. And i threw the kibble out i am going to talk to dh AGAIN about not giving him that kind of stuff. I cant do it right now as i am to mad and it will just cause a fight. I am going to call tomorrow and find out exactly when he is back and take henry in. he came out and drank a little bit but went back to sleep. i plan to wake him up and see if i can get some soup down him tonight before bed. I figured just baby meat and pumpkin if i could find sime. It is my fault i should have hidden the kibble instead of just leaving it where it was by his cage.

I think the kibble and meat combo made his tum-tum upset. However, you and your hubby really need to come to a firm understanding about what they eat. If he's using the old, "I didn't know what to feed them" excuse, then go through your fridge and freezer, organize everything by day and meat put a list on your fridge about what thing to feed them on what day, so that he will have no excuse.
