On a previous thread I outlined my adventures with Sugar, my new cotton-eating, arrival. Yesterday she and her cagemate went to the vet and he cleared her and gave her cagemate, Spice rabies and distemper since we really don't know when they last saw a vet. (BTW, we found that he had a tracking chip!) Anyway, this morning I wake up to more diarrhea-gooey green poo and figure it was sugar and she's still getting bit of cotton out of her system. Nope. While I was giving her medication this morning I noticed Spice coming down to use the potty. He found the perfect spot and all he did was a teaspoon worth of diarrhea. So apparently the diarrhea mixed with regular poo I found this morning was his, not her's. (She went like a pro and even gave me enough time to scoop her up into the litter box this time!) I have NO idea if or what he may have gotten into or if it's possibly just stress from visiting the vet yesterday and getting shots. He is drinking, ate more than his share of pumpkin that I had out for Sugar and even stole some of her laxatone. He seems a little tired and lethargic but I would expect that to be normal the day after vaccinations. *sigh* Yet another 24-48 hours of watching the litter box expectantly. They couldn't give me a week to enjoy them without stressing, could they?

What you're seeing is probably the reaction to the vaccine. That does horrible things to their little bodies. He will also probably sleep more than usual too. Give him a couple of days and he should be fine. I do know what you mean though Try having 12 Vet visits often result in messy poops for a couple of days (stress poops) Lots of hugs and snuggles and gentle play usually gets them through it. You may want to give pumpkin for a bit just to help him get through the rough patch. ciao

I agree- it's likely the shots. I think, however, I'd be getting the vet to separate the shots by at least 2 weeks between them, to give them time to recover from one before administering a second toxin to the body. Mine insists on waiting 3 weeks. Also, if a reaction ever does develop, it will be that much worse if they've had both rabies and distemper at the same time.

I was going to say the same thing. Rabies and distemper shouldn't be given at the same time. When my guys went in for their distemper they all got icky poops for a day.
