*grumbles* I just lost the whole thing I typed. Below is a picture of Koda's X-ray. The white mass is the blockage. I could have taken the chance he would pass it as he had been pooping still but he was showing all other signs of a blockage - face scratching, vomiting and gagging/hacking, frantic behavior, etc. Well I was very glad I didn't take that chance! When the vet opened him up she found that his entire GI tract up to the blockage (starting from the anus end of course) was totally empty. Meaning yes he'd been pooping - everything that was in front of the blockage. And had pooped it all out and was not totally blocked. It was a hard hit financially, but I look at his face and I know that there is no better way I could have spent that money. If your baby's X-rays looked like this, and she is showing signs of a blockage, I would really want to get another opinion... Whatever is going on with her, I wish you both the best of luck! Please keep us posted!

Lucrezia had "normal" xrays, and nothing showed. Then she had a barium series, and they showed the foam rubber in her tummy.

Sugar had the cotton filling from a puppy pad in her stomach. The vet didn't retake the x ray but he agreed that the large pocket of gas in the stomach was behind the obstruction. You couldn't see the cotton at all. She passed a good portion of it early this morning before going to the vet (which we took with us). This afternoon I found some more in a corner and this evening she finally poo'd a little bit more and the rest was regular color. I'm hoping everything is finally done and out. I removed the pads from the cage a few days ago but I had to empty her cage and scour it because tiny pieces of cotton keep showing up. She's happily eating the Meow Mix (she refuses everything else) and right now, I'm just happy she's eating something because she did lose some weight over the past week. After she's done with her antibiotics I'm going to start trying to switch them over to raw. I'm hoping she'll be feeling much better a week from now when she's done with them. My current (good) problem is that she goes to the bathroom anywhere she is. Literally, she'll stop about 2 feet from a wall and just go. This evening it was, Yay, you poo'd! No! Not there!

Oh yeah I forgot to add that that was a barium X ray. I am really glad she passed/is passing it and is feeling better! Blockages are scary stuff! :,( Hugs to your girl and yourself and I hope she continues to improve.

I'd also forgotten- they'd found a large pocket of gas with Lucrezia as well, which is why the vet then did the barium!

If I remember correctly, normal x rays won't show a blockage (unless they ate like a coin or something) and Barium X rays can show the gas caused by a blockage that could indicate something in there. Something along those lines.

Something along those lines. It's possible my vet is simply very experienced with ferrets, xrays, etc. All she told me is they did the barium based on the enlarged area in the intestines, likely due to gas build up behind it, most likely caused by a blockage of some sort
