Hi y'all. 'Been gone a while.
My Tigger passed away nearly 2 months ago... it was pretty rough; pretty upsetting. Actually, this explains it...

(Just a slideshow with pics of our time together and poem excerpt).
Tigger passed away 10/20/2010. I adopted him in January 2010 from
Millie. He was assumed to be roughly 3 years old then. During Tigger's
time with us, he had two brothers, Weasel and Slinky, both slightly
younger and more energetic than himself. My ferrets live outside in a
pen when the weather is nice enough, so around the beginning of the
year, Tigger lived outside in the pen with his brothers. Tigger was
skinny when he came into our home. I thought by adding real meat into
his diet and letting him loose more, he'd bulk up and grow a new
fluffy coat. After a few months, this became true. Around the middle
of this year, he was fat, healthy and energetic. He always had a
waddle-walk (kind of stumbled over his back feet), but after months
with us, when I'd let them loose in the house, Tigger would climb onto
shelves (2-3' high) and would run/war dance with his brothers (though
in shorter spurts). He was there for the calender shoot, big old
fluffy cinnamon boy.. Millie said she hardly recognized him (this made
me happy/proud).. he even outgrew Slinky (stocky little DEW, built
like a mini polar bear) sometimes and was then called the "king of
ferret village".
Oct. 19, 2010 Tigger started having seizures in the morning. I drove
him to the local vet where they gave him a shot and glucose to
stabilize, then drove him to Dallas vet where he was given meds. Back
home, I handfed him with a medicine dropper and gave him meds, but the
next day (morning) he had seizures again and passed on around midday.
I'll never know what was really wrong with him and our time together
was too short.. I've been crying, been so messed up from this over the
past few days. His 2 brothers seem saddened as well, they've been
sleeping a lot. Was it worth it though- adopting an older ferret,
knowing his time with us would be short? Of course it was. Its worth
the tears knowing that he got a family and got to live outside a cage
for at least a short time. Its worth the tears knowing that for a
time, he was healthy and happy. I'll never know how he spent those
first 3 years of life, since we only had him for his last 9 months,
but I hope he enjoyed his time with us and I hope the Rainbow Bridge
legend is true.
Thanks for reading. I've never had a ferret die before, never had a
ferret with such an emergency before. I knew they didn't live long..
so Love Them while you got them.
Fast forward... and We are OK now.. Weasel, my son and I took it the hardest... Weasel was skinny (seemed upset tummy) and a finicky eater for at least a month afterwards (actually kept him on a soup diet with ulcer meds for a bit). My son (5-yr-old) loves the ferrets and I had to explain death to him (extremely hard and a first for us both), but we're all 3 a lot better now.. thinking positive about it.. Tigger's waiting at the rainbow bridge for us... or he's an angel in heaven... either way, we'll be with him again one day. Just wanted to share because I'm still glad for the time we had together and he was a great ferret, pet and friend. If you want to send him well wishes, thanks
and We Love You
