I was reading the 2010 Annual Ferrets magazine and on p. 56 they mentioned that there is (not yet licensed in the US and Canada) an implant designed to suppress hormones and delay the onset of adrenal disease. Has anyone heard of this? wow, that's quite a concept.
Also, what's the general consensus here about the Marshall's product that you put in their water to make their poop less smelly? It's made from mushrooms.

is it that Bi-Odor stuff? I used it a long time ago, and quit - it didn't do anything. Later on, on another ferret group I'm on, some people said that Bi-Odor can mess up the ferret's pH, and it's not as "harmless" as the bottle says, it can actually be dangerous. They quoted some article, but god knows I don't know where the link would be now (and I don't know how researched/legit it was). I don't know if that's the product you're talking about, but :\ I don't and wouldn't and my experience when I *did* wasn't worth the money, anyway. Just my thoughts

Bi-odor seemed to do nothing I bought a huge bottle when I got my first guy and I never finished it and never noticed a difference.

Well, I've been using the Bi-Odor and it made a tremendous difference...but since they've been on a raw diet, honestly, maybe it's just my nose, but I don't smell anything. maybe it's true what they say about the raw diet cutting down on the smell of ferret feces. Maybe I'll cut out the Bi-Odor and see what that does. But when I was feeding kibble, sometimes the place REALLY smelled ferrety, and the Bi-Odor made a HUGE difference.
When you say you tried it and it didn't help, were you feeding raw or kibble?
I'll have to read those threads on the implants later. It's time for bed...

What you're referring to is the deslorelin implant from Peptech in Australia. Jennifer has used the implant to help treat adrenal symptoms with great success. My vet has agreed to implant my kit Brady as an "experiment" to see if it prolongs the onset of symptoms. For the 1 year implant, it will cost me about $150. There's also several studies aimed at seeing if spaying/ neutering can be delayed using the Des implant. Promising stuff... but there's still really not enough data to say its a true preventative
