do ferrets get hiccups? my girl pebbles just had what i thought looked like hiccups, but do ferrets get them? i also noticed it a few days ago too. I'm not sure if they do, so I'm really worried about her. i will probably make a vet appointment just to be sure that nothing is wrong, because i worry a lot, ferrets are definitely trouble makers

Oh yes, they get hiccups. It's just an irritation in the diaphragm, nothing to worry about If it was all the time it might be worth looking into but hiccups once in a while are normal, just like for people.

Yep, ferrets get hiccups. Another downside of their body's working so fast, hiccups often occur!

ok. thank you. i thought they were normal but i was just checking. neither belle or joe had ever had hiccups that i've noticed, just pebbles. could it also be that she's still under a year? she was born in march, so she's just over 9 months now. could it be that she's still "growing" or something?

I doubt it. It's probably just because she has behaviors that cause hiccups like eating a lot at once or eating fast. Excitement can also cause them and young ferrets tend to get more excited than older ones.

Hiccups is caused by the diaphragm -- which is moved with breathing. With how fast a ferret breathes, eats, and drinks, the hiccups are bound to happen. Try breathing as quick as a ferret and tell me you did not get hiccups!

breathing as a fast as a ferret would cause hyperventilating, which then eventually you would pass out. so i think you would totally by pass the hiccups
