I use Stella and Chewy's as well, but I find the consistency to vary (moisture content). I do know what Wysong is thinking....it's all about profit They got so much backlash when they tried to eliminate the ferret Archetypal I that they didn't go through with it. Look up Casey's Hidden Pantry. The specialize in ferret foods and have a good assortment of freeze-dried diets. PLEASE DO NOT use Nature's Variety Freeze-dried products. I use their frozen diets, but when I tried their freeze-dried, I found huge pieces/whole pumpkin seeds (shell and all) in the food. That's an obstruction waiting to happen. It has been YEARS since I tried their freeze-dried - I don't want food that I need to carefully dissect before feeding. -jennifer

I was given a few of the Nature's Variety freeze dried medallions not quite 3 years ago, and they still had the whole pumpkin seeds in then, as well. So I don't think they've changed it.

SherryLynne, thanks for the update on this. I was almost tempted to by a package the other day just to see if anything had changed. That is so weird becaus I have never found big seeds in their frozen foods. -jennifer

Yeah, I don't know why they include something like that in there.

i received a response email from wysong-- summary of response: the ferret arch I formula was changed to increase the organ meats. they will be decreasing the ratio and this may make it more acceptable to pets that are refusing to eat it. if you are not happy you can return the bags for a refund or exhange. i was also informed that the Archetype Burgers (which i actually started a link about a few months ago) is really the same as the old archetype forumula except they are in pressed burger form instead of loose shreds in the bag.

yes. obviously their beef source raised their prices and they decided to cut the beef out entirely. the ferret archetypal 1 used to have lamb in it also and they took the lamb out. no one cares anymore. my ferret loves stella and chewy's no matter what the moisture content. i ordered archetype burgers from wysong

and you'd think that they would LOWER THE PRICE PER BAG since they are using less expensive meat ! chicken is way less expensive than beef! grrrr. no one cares anymore.

I have to wonder how much of their cost cutting has to do with that lawsuit Purina tried to launch a couple of years ago? Things like that get expensive, especially when you are fighting such a large company.

I ordered a few different kinds of Stella and Chewy's, I hope they like it. I looked at the archetype burgers but the carrot makes me nervous, I don't know how big the pieces are in it. And I wonder if the archetype burger meat sources are even correctly labeled, you get different answers depending on who you talk to there. They're not all on the same page with the changes.
And I've been waiting a week for the approval to return the open bags. May just have to dispute the charge on my card. Because we are listed as resellers the rep at Wysong said we were informed in our agreement that ingredients could be substituted at any time. I said I don't care what it says, this product is mislabeled, that's in violation of pet food labeling laws, tell that to your manager.
If they are reported to and fined by the FDA/FTC/AAFCO there goes their profits.

i intend to soak the patties in water and full dissect before letting my ferret try it. the dog can eat them so they won't go to waste.

Wysong wouldn't take back my open bags but they gave me store credit and sent me a sample of the archetype burger. I figured I would wait to see what it was like before pushing anything further. They look and smell much like the Archetypal 1 they were used to, and they are quite happy about it. I don't see any pieces of carrot or anything. In the meantime they have also gotten used to and taken a liking to the Only Natural Pet Beef patties, and the Stella and Chewy's Beef and the Lamb, which I didn't realize also has ingredients that could be trouble in large pieces but so far I haven't seen any. They don't care for the Duck Duck Goose, hence the problem with the new A1 chicken formula, but my picky cat likes it. So now I at least have a few alternatives and can stop worrying about running out of A1.
