I've retired my first batch of breeder mice by feeding off the male and letting the females finish up with what they already had going in the oven. None too soon I might add as the last litter had only two survivors. So while I was out today looking for colored mice for my new breeders, I started to feel bad that my mice had such barren cages. As much as I dislike mice I do want them to have a decent existence before becoming food. The spoiled mice now have two wheels, an igloo, a house, and a tube thingy. I was mostly unsuccessful in finding colored mice but I did get a male. The females were all boring white with red eyes. So I may end up breeding him with some of the mice I bred. At least they aren't related. He is kinda cute...for a mouse

Also a question. The new mouse is definitely the most jumpy of the lot and seems pretty terrified of being handled. I went to look in on them just now and he was twitching his tail really fast, reminded me of like a rattle snake. What does this behavior mean in mice? I didn't do anything to disturb them other than open the door to their room and look in the cage.
Edit: Well I found a couple answers.
"The vibrating tail is when they mark their territory with urine."
"Rapping/Vibrating the tail - this mouse is annoyed. It can mean they have had enough of you trying to handle them. The good thing about it is that it’s not a frightened sign, just an annoyance sign. It may also be seen when males are introduced and sense their territory is being 'threatened'. If a male does this when you have just introduced it to other males, keep an eye on the situation just in case, but it doesn't mean that the mouse will not then accept the newcomer(s)."

I went to three different Petcos today and none of them had colored female mice The last one had a few colored males so I made a new breeding plan. I'll have two breeding cages and each one will have a colored male and a few plain jane females. Then I'll make my third generation breeders from the colored babies I hopfully get Here's my new male. I'm hoping for some brown babies out of him and some black babies out of the other to breed together for all sorts of fun colors.

you never know what your female albino's are carrying, so yea, you could get funky colours but than maybe not also I'm just wondering, where did you get those cage types? i looked for them when i was breeding my mice, but the tubs i had them in didn't work out, so i stopped, but those cages look awesome for the mice.
