Tonight I heard a horrible growling from something and yelping and whimpering from my dog mocha, black lab, and I brought her in! I don't know what this creature was but I advised if mom looked for it she carried something to defend her saith with. Any way, when mocha came in she was limping (which even though she has hip displashea I still worry.) Worst part, she has 1 cut on her snout, 1 cut on her lip, 1 cut on her ear! Worse then the worse part, we have NO antibiotic ointment, NO hydrogen peroxide, and NOTHING to fight infection!!!!! Thankfully un like the cats she had her rabbi shots, but what else should I consider? Ps. Mocha is sleeping with me tonight because I don't want that thing to get her!

Aw, I am glad you got her in quickly! If you don't have anything for the scratches I would not worry too much. Just wash them off really well (gently of course) with water and keep an eye out for signs of infection and keep them clean and dry after the initial wash. She should heal quickly. Do you guys have wild animals in the area? Perhaps it was an escaped neighbor's cat or dog, or some type of wildlife...?

A saline solution works just as well too. Soap and water is often your best line of defense and just let nature take it's course. Most wounds will heal with just that much care. A tough old tom cat might do the damage you saw. Just watch for infection. If you want you can put a bit of salt about a teaspoon to about a cup of water, mix well, then clean gently with a cotton swab. I've used this a number of times when cleaning wounds caused when the furbrats get into it too hard. I hope your Mocha is feeling better today ciao

Thanks guys She is doing good right now. As for what it was we still don't know. Their was no hissing just a fears growl, to dark to see. We do get some forms of nocturnal wild life. Mom thinks it was a raccoon trying to steal her food (which after words she finished so it can't.) What ever it was it is fence proof. Who knows, maby we have baggers and no one knows, their nocturnal, and 98% of the people who are out side all night and don't sleep when every one else dose are in cars. Wildest stuff I recall is nutria or otter at the tiny bridge, porky pines at the road, and a dare devil mountain lion at high school, thought to be imposable.

We're having a problem with raccoons too! About a week ago our Jezzebelle got into a fight with on and it gave her quite a few nasty cuts on her tail! She's feeling better now to and thankfully didn't need stitches but did need some antibiotics because her tail swelled up to amost double it's normal thickness! Poor Jezzebelle she hates taking pills

It's probably just because there is/was a scab there. The fur should grow back eventually as long as there isn't a scar.
