Shiloh is my girl, and she is the only one who cares about squeak toys. However, I get mixed messages from her regarding her attitude on them. I have to wonder if they stress her out. When we first start squeaking it, she runs to us, which isn't out of the ordinary, I have heard. Then, as we squeak it, she starts dooking. Good, right? But then, she turns from seemingly happy to hissing. Today, she even bit hubby. We just scruffed her and calmed her down; she could have thought that he was being antagonizing, or maybe she thinks it's a distress call or something from toy and she wants to 'save' it. I have no idea. When she wrestles the toy from us, she hides it neurotically, which I also understand is normal ferrety behavior, but she doesn't like when the boys get a hold of them and play with them when she isn't. Is she being normal in the mixed happy/aggressive behavior?

Some of them have bizzare reactions to squeakies. It's a good idea if you can train her to come to it, though. That way if you need to find her, you squeak the toy, and give her a treat. And gods forbid it happen, if she gets outside, you can use it there as well. Some of mine enjoy, dance and dook to a squeaky, some absolutely freak out at it, and one is will actually run and hide when he hears it. That said, if you keep squeaking it over and over, with her reaction to it, then yes- she'll get stressed over it. But just using it as a training tool should teach her it's a good thing. But, make sure you've got that treat on hand to give her, every single time

I'll make sure we restrict it to using it to help teach her come. However, we'll not overdo it-and let her play with them without squeaking it. lol

omg Badger is the same way. She freaks out!! She comes running and it looks like she is trying to save it, oddly enough it only works with some squeaky toys.

The girls in particular get all weird about squeaking toys. I'm not sure if this is a "mommy instinct". They like the squeaking a lot, but then they get possessive about it and P.O.'d if they cannot have the toy. If they get the toy, they run of and hide it.They may think it's a "baby" that neds to be hidden in a safe place. Definitely a "girl thing".

Yes, Jennifer, I've always thought this behavior might have been a chick thing; after all, Shiloh is our little diva. We have a blue armchair in our bedroom, and she has spent hours at a time protecting her 'babies' underneath it.

My one little female, Suki, just simply hates them If you squeak ANY squeaky in her hearing, she attacks. YOU- not the toy She'll do her best to bite whichever hand is doing the squeaking and/or try to get the toy away. With her, I think it's more making the squeak stop than any real protective urges As you can see in this, she almost nailed me a couple of times! And yes- I was teasing her s286.photobucket.com/albums/ll118/sherrylynne_photos/videos/?action=view¤t=DSCN1316.mp4

well my Joe would come to the squeaky noises, but he wouldn't do anything about them now that i have Pebbles, she'll come running, but if you keep squeaking it she'll try to bite you. i have no idea what's up with it either.

Buffy is like Pebbles too. She will race up to you when you squeak the toy. But then she will literally attack you, and bite real bad too. So yes, I think it is a mummy thing, like she is trying to save a baby. Ozzie just wants to play with it, same as Bindi before she had the babies, I don't want to upset her now to see what she would do. She has been upset enough already, poor girl

Our little girl definitley loves her squeaky toys. She has those crinkle beanie babies that squeak, and she hides them neurotically. we can always pull her out of wherever she has gotten with a sqeaky toy, and she will chase us all around the house... leaping up on couches, chairs, boxes etc... just to get the toy from us, then hiding it. All of them go right behind the couch. But if no one is around, or if she thinks no one is around to watch her, she'll wrestle with them. I think they are her special toys that she doesn't want anyone esle to have. Even if she's across the house and hears us pick one up from behind the couch, she pokes her head around the corner from wherever she is and looks like if she could talk she'd be yelling "Hey! You messin with my stuff?"

I wish I would of read this before bringing the squeeky out this evening!!! I was playing with the big group and squeeking some small dog toys...one was taken and stashed under the couch...while squeeking the other I noticed that Sophie Ann (vampire ferret) was getting excited so I decided to give the toy to her in her cage while the big group was out playing...yeah...that was very much the wrong thing to do!!! As soon as the cage door was open she lunged at me with lightening speed and latched onto my foreare just below my elbow!!! Holy Crap that hurt and Holy Crap she can move FAST!!! I mean yeah I know ferrets are fast, but I didn't even see her jump! One millisecond she was on the top shelf of her cage waiting for the door to open and the next she was attached to my arm!!! And it wasn't a small bite either her mouth was open as wide as it would go! The puncture marks on my arm are almost 2 inches apart between the top and lower canines!!!!! ouch!
