I moved to the other side of town, and the grocery store that is closest ( I walk, don't drive). I was worried that it wouldn't have all the things I usually buy from wal-mart from them (I also get them mice when I can afford them). I usually get them cornish hens, chicken wings, whole chickens, wingettes (plus chicken gizzards, hearts, and livers), pork, beef (ground, steak, livers), turkey (ground and non-ground). Well, I found out in pretty short order that they have all of that plus, they have rabbit in varying quantities. Not only would I like to try rabbit, I have never been able to give any to the babies, as I don't hunt, and nowhere around here usually sells stuff like that. So, even though Sav-A-Lot isn't the greatest with many items, I am so happy that they have rabbit for the babies to nom.

Oh goodness do they love it. They devoured the first helping in 15 minutes. I've probably given them five more servings since then, and they really loved it. They ate like little piggies. I was really surprised about how soft the bones seemed in some places. I love that they liked this stuff so much.

Ok, so Sav-A-Lot for the win again! Not only do they have rabbit! They also have quail, turkey necks, and assorted fish. I mean, I don't really feed fish, but quail and turkey necks are awesome! Wal-Mart never had any of that stuff. I'm officially over the moon in happiness. First thing tomorrow morning, I stockpile my freezer to the max with goodies. Yeah, I'll get groceries for us too, but I want to have so much food for the ferrets that I won't have to buy anymore for months to come. yay!

Be careful how much you give of the goodies they really adore, though! My girl, Lucrezia LOVES smelts. At the time, I believed ferrets did NOT overeat. Plus, she was growing still, and winter appetites were coming on. She ate her 4(they're small), plus all the other smelts the others refused to touch , and asked for more. Which I gave to her. About 10-15 minutes later- it all started coming back up again. And again. And again! That poor baby looked so green around the gills. She just lay in her hammy, making soft noises. You could tell she didn't feel well. Just like a kid who's eaten too much candy And no- she was never allowed more than her share again. And since she was the only one who liked them, that was easy

Awwh, poor girl. I think Oz is that way with rabbit. He hovered over the bowl and just ate and ate. I thought he might have been just really hungry, but he snubbed the chicken the next day and the next. He picked at his food, and he usually really likes chicken. I think he was just being picky because he'd tasted something amazing. He didn't make himself sick though-I'll just have to watch out for the little piggies.

My crew loves rabbits too!!! When the little ones in my mil's litters don't make it she gives them to me for the ferrets and if I don't have enough for each one they will fight over them, squeel, hiss, all sorts of racket! I also discovered that most of my fuzz like lamb...we were processing an order for 25 lb of ground lamb with heart and liver and we ended up with extra couple pounds so mil said I could take it home... oh boy were they happy!!! The dogs each got an extra lamb heart and the ferrets got the extra ground lamb and heart mix... they all just gathered around the bowls until there was nothing left!

Awwh. The fuzzbabies are so silly about the things they love and the things they merely like. My crew likes chicken. They eat it in a timely manner, though it usually takes a few hours. When I set down the rabbit, they each licked it a few times, and then started dragging pieces to their spots to eat, and hissing at each other.
