It is with deep sorrow that I say goodbye to my treasured Champion Thoroughbred show horse "Foxfire Lady",
affectionately known as Duchess.
Duchess as a 3 year old
I rode all her track work when she was a racehorse at 3 years old. After a win and a few places the owners decided to retire her as she was just too big and heavy and would eventually injure herself, she was 16.1hh and 700 kg. She was given to me as a gift for all the time & effort I put into making her a winning racehorse. She had show jumping blood lines from an Irish sire and a NZ dam, so I started her show horse education.
On our way to another Championship in Brisbane
and in Sydney
We always had a very close bond and even though she was a difficult mare to ride our partnership developed into a winning combination. She proved she would try any event we entered. We won at Show Jumping, Dressage, Show Ring, Rodeo Events & Barrel Race, Gymkhana Events, Polocrosse, Campdrafting and Eventing.
When she was 18 years old, we won a Sydney Dressage with a lot of competitors against us. It was after this win I decided to retire my beautiful mare to go and have a foal of her own to pass on her talent.
She had the most stunning colt, he is an "Irish Sport Horse" by an Irish Draught stallion. His name is "Innisfree", and he is 5 years old now. He is a very talented Eventer who is heading in the right direction to being able to compete in the Olympic Games Three Day Event.
Innisfree at 3 months old
When she was 27 years old living a life of luxury in a lovely grassed paddock, she said her final goodbyes to every one.
She was the most special girl to me and there will never be another horse to take her place in my heart.
I wish you happiness galloping across the fields.
Goodbye my friend..
