So I get that raw/whole prey diets should have at least three protein sources. What I'm wondering is if they need to be fed in equal amounts.
For instance, my guys get mostly mice and rats and every couple days will get a meal of rabbit, quail, beef, pork, chicken, or sometimes chicks. So while the diet is primarily mice and rats, there is still variety. Will this be balanced enough?
On a somewhat related note, why don't reptiles need multiple protein sources? Or do they? I know lots of snakes are only fed mice or many lizards only get crickets. Does this effect them nutrition wise?

I would try and feed a greater variety vs using predominantly rodents. If you were going to feed predominantly prey, try using some harder boned prey...like rabbit and quail. Chicks are candy, they love them but there is little to no nutritional value. If you were going to do a natural prey diet of a polecat...rabbit would be at the top of the list with rodents falling farther down the chain with finally scavenged meats (whatever they find dead, could be venison or some larger prey animal that has already been feasted on by larger preditors or by parasites or other fatal means). Ferrets need high concentrations of calcium. If you were to feed rabbits, rats and mice in descending order of amounts fed....you would probably be working in a better balance with the other meats filling in the gaps ciao

Alright makes sense. I'll put in an order today for a bunch of rabbits and some more quail. Maybe try a couple guinea pigs.

I have a switching student who's ferrets just love GP, they will actually hold out to get that particular treat. I'm going to have to find some kind of supply for those Those and chicks, neither protein can I find up here ciao

I've never tried the piggies so we'll see what they think. I usually just make a huge rodentpro order to make the shipping worthwhile. I discovered last time that picking up my order at the Greyhound station let me order twice as much for nearly the same shipping cost. I got some weird looks and the dude there wasn't too happy about helping me stuff a huge box of frozen dead animals into my tiny car
